Alternator for 03 Civic LX Sedan

My Civic says its manufactured in Canada when I go to Carfax. Will this make a difference if I try to buy a HO alternator? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

First letter of VIN, 2 = Canada / 1=U.S.

You may need the engine code.

How do I find out the engine code? Carfax says I have a 1.7L L4 SOHC PFI 16V engine Manufactured in Canada (My VIN does start with a 2). My problem is that alternator makers online say the HO alts do not fit the Civics made in Canada.

D17??? On my 05 it is stamped into the block right beside the VIN tag on the engine. And also on a white tag on the timing belt cover. (there may be other places)

Well, I think that would mean that this particular HO alternator will not fit sedans -- I could be wrong, of course, but I believe the Civic sedans are assembled in Ontario, Canada, while the coupes are built in Ohio. (My sedan is Canadian, dontcha know... )

The dealer told me " The Canadian alternators are not available. I cannot build one for you unless you send me the one on your car or a Canadian alternator to build. Can you send me some pics of the one on your car so I can see what the difference is in them ? I might be able to get one to work....?" I wanted to know if it made a difference if my car was manufactured in Canada or not since on EBAY I see a listing that said NOT FOR CIVICS MANUFACTURED IN CANADA. Where did you Canadian-built Civic owners get your HO alternators?

That's odd. When I got to Majestic and compare the OEM (Mitsubishi) alternator for a 2003 LX sedan to that of a 2003 LX coupe, the part numbers seem the same... I don't get why the HO alternator would not fit both vehicles.
