Relocation of hood release *pics*

So, I was trying to decide an approach to building kick panels and was trying to figure out the best way to tackle the hood release on the driver's side. I figured I could do one of the following
1. use factory kick as an outline and mold around it.
2. Leave it there and only fabricate up to it.
3. Relocate it to another spot.

I decided Using the factory kick was kindof a pain in the *** and may limit my angling options for the drivers. I also figured leaving it there would not look the way I wan't it to look cause I couldnt' glass high enough. So, it had to go. I was trying to figure out where to put it and I came across the stupid change holder on the left side of the steering wheel. That thing is useless to me So I decided to use it to hide the release lever. I took off the lever, pulled it through the firewall slightly more and rebolted in just behind the change holder door. I then will use a pull-cord method to open the hood from behind. I have mickey moused this operation temporarily using a shoe lace and a wire tie base (McGiver smiles) and it works perfectly fine. See

Ha, it's easier to jack my engine since I don't have a hood latch and use only hood pins but why steal my engine? Want that power in a geo?

Hmm. I'd have to say that I have never considered doing that and still won't ever consider it, however, I like how you did it.

i'm building kicks for my car soon, and i am planning relocating the hood release to where the trunk release is. so basically, i have no in cabin trunk release, only using the key fob or the key itself will unlock it (i'd rather have it this way anyways, only the key will unlock the trunk, makes me feel like its safer )

Upon further thought, I believe I'm going to try and make a rod attached to the lever instead of a cord. We'll see, it's out of hte way for now and fully functional is more important.

Hey J, why not use the coinholder as a lever and make opening the coinholder pull the cord?

So that when I am on the highway and forget and opened my coin holder to get a coin the hood doesn't fly up in my face

No seriously, its an interesting idea, but I thnk I'd rather retain the stupid thing for use and not have to worry about warning people who drive my car or my GF forgetting and popping hte head in traffic. I keep my dental floss in there and some loose change for the parking meters.

Dude, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Ideas. You can never go wrong sharing your ideas. 1. THey may be good ideas. 2. They may stimulate someone to have an idea of their own or some variation of your original idea. Good Stuff.
