J,
Personally, I'd say to keep the buttons myself. It keps the form and function of the unit to it's full capabilities. Plus, that way if you ever do decide to get a different screen, or whatever, you won't have a problem selling this one because it still holds all of the form and function like it did when it was new (minus being glassed in of corse). As for glare issues, being as you recessed yours and it's not flush with the dash front, you shouldn't have the glare issue. Flattening the screen out on it's horizontal axis, instead of letting it follow the line of the dash, would further alleviate the glare issue. The reason I say your glare isn't going to be as bad is because you're going in from the rear where others, most of the time, come in from the front, and it's not recessed as far, nor do you have the option of flattening the display out. Does any of that make sense?
Form and function is what is most pressing on me because I am that type of guy - remember how bent I was on keeping my cupholders. As far as glare is concerned, I'm not that worried. For the reasons you listed and also I've been monitoring glare for the past week by using a piece of black construction paper in the double din hole. Its never really a big issue and when sun comes in, it does so from the side windows and I plan to tint soon anyway and that'll help a little. Another big factory is, I frankly don't drive my car much during the day. I drive at night, usually on weekends we take my chick's car considering she's got assigned parking. I do like form and function especially considering I like challenges. I'm going to try it first with the buttons and then I'll cut them out If I don't like it.
what about removing the buttons and molding them in so you wouldnt have to have the "frame" for the screen but you would still have the buttons... that would look damn good... it would also be a lot of work i guess but i think it would look so friggin hot
Well I've already begun. I am planning to keep the buttons, they are glasses over in the photos but should be available from the back as they have been masked. We'll see how it goes. Heres the progress so far:
Tacking the casing in place with 2 part plastic appoxy
Again, the weapon of choice for me was bodo glass. I had so much success (not to mention left overs) with my HU relocation project, that I decided to stay with what works
Are you going to try to recut the holes for the buttons or what? I don't think I understand
I masked them and yes, I'm going to re-cut them.

Yeah, actually, that's why I decided to keep using it. I used on my HU relocation (if you've seen the thread you'll understand how my project had to bond to plastic) the stuff bonds like a champ! I didn't even have to drill holes or anything. Its hard to sand, but I have a pnuematic grinder and sander so I don't F around. Still, it's great shit.
PRICIVIC. That's very easy. Especially a 7 inch. You can buy the dash piece (if youre worried about fuxoring your stock one) frmo majestic honda for about $65 shipped, if I remember correctly. Easy to fabricate there.
J, Looking good, what you gonna open the hole up for the buttons with? Dremel with fine bit?
