http://www.eclipse-web.com/products/avn/avn_audio.htm

they also have one that doesnt do nav but has a built in 20gb hard drive...seems kinda wierd though...only records the songs you play in the player...cant upload already compressed files??? 3000 songs on 20 gig??

THe only thing I cant stand about the N1 is that it wont play mp3 dvd's. 5 gigs of mp3s would be sweet.

Alex, the new SE Civic has a whole new bezel. It looks like ours without the aftermarket metra kit in it, but instead of having hard edges, it rolls in and meets the factory MP3 player (which is resessed in about an inch). I'm thinking about picking one up.

Metra makes a double din kit for our cars. As for comparison of the Eclipse and the Pioneer, there are several factors to consider. The Pioneer has the capability to multi-task, the Eclipse does not. Meaning that while nav is running, the eclipse unit doesn't allow you to play DVD's, but you can have radio or cd's playing. You'd need a secondary video source to play movies while running nav. The AVIC allows you to run nav and operaqte a DVD simoutaneously. There are other differences/comparisons I can make, but this was teh most prominent that comes to mind. The AVIC is also more user friendly, and doesn't have deep menus that you have to navigate through to operate different functions. It's easier to use than the eclipse unit, and you don't actually have to look at it to operate it. For ease of use, and functionality, I'd say the Pioneer.

And the irony of it is that that keeps them from really living their life. It keeps them drinking that glass of water but never really tasting it."

I would agree after owning the AVIC-N1 and using the eclipse, the pioneer is my choice imho! You can play mp3/dvd on the N1, have been doing so since I bought the unit in March. You have to use Audio DVD creator in order to do so but works great. Have all my cd's down to about 3 dvd-r's. Waiting for an ipod adapter, wishful thinking...maybe!!!

You should look into security, I hear the eclipse decks if hte power is cut to em you need the owners cd and a code or somtin for them to work again, just like the oem decks.

With the N1 even if you take your face with you, you risk someone wanting your screen / receiver, you can order a new face plate from pioneer and any will work with any (how bloody stupid)

btw dimille, good advice! maybe ill get the n2, hows the load / seek time on that? Does the DVD player run noisy? how about when mapping

I do not have any detailed specs yet on the N2, just know the major updates they are adding. I still personally don't think the N1 is that noisy at all, but then again that is a personal opinion. However, talking to our pioneer rep he has said that the noise issue and background animations have been the two most requested items to be updated on the N2. I have heard of a few people actually unhooking the fans but I would not recommend, that is like unhooking the CPU fan on your computer. Wont last long!!! IMO!!!

It is called Eclipse Security Network

The eclipse uses the eclipse security network (ESN). The owner chooses a cd in their collection and programs this as the "key". If the power is disconnected, you have to put the "key" cd in the unit for it to operate again. You get 3 trys and after that you have to call eclipse. You would have to be the registered owner of the unit to get the code to unlock the unit. This process usually involves an authorized dealer of eclipse products. This is my experiance from owning an eclpise indash monitor and selling/installing them for 2 years. I feel that their security is the best on the market, but it only helps if the thief is smart enought to know that the eclipses are set up this way. All it takes is some dumb punk kid to break into your car and rip the monitor out. All along not knowing that it won't work after they steal it. The plus of eclipse is that they have a 1 year theft guarentee stating if your unit is stolen within 1 year of purchase, with a police report they will replace the unit.

Just my 2 cents......

the AVN is a nice product. this guy that frequents the local shop has one installed, works great and has tons of features. damn thing is sturdy also, his GF rolled his jeep that had the avn installed in it, nothing happened to the avn, works flawlessly.
i like the look of the eclipse, has that OEM type look to it (and as most have mentioned, the 05 SE vic has that double din dash bezel which this thing should fit perfectly in).

I love my N1, however the new N2 is something of interest to me as well. I like how the eclipse is a double din, however makes it more visible to theives. All in all, I am happy with my N1!!
