New Car

Hey fellas,

Just picked up a new 2004 EX Sedan yesterday. I have my alpine amp and some other pieces of equipment ready for installation. I am going to keep the stock head unit for now. I do have a couple of questions....

1) Remote wire for amp - does factory radio have one??? If not what did you use.

2) Impedence of factory speakers = 4 ohms?

3) Factory radio power output ???

4) Alpine has low level inputs. It is a 5 channel amp. Should I replace the factory speakers with 6 1/2 sony explodes I had in my truck? Also should I run the factory radio directly to the amp or use a converter and RCA's.

Any input is appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for all the responses........ J/K.

Well for now I put a 10" sub in a box the was built for a 15" sub. Just until next week when I can build a box. Temporarily hooked up amp through high level input off rear speakers only. Bass hits really hard for 1 sub. I was really suprised. Anyway I will be building a new box and will post some pics next week sometime.

1) I believe there is a blue wire in there some place for the factory deck you can splice into that works as a remote.

2) yes

3) probably 10-18w RMS

4) I would and I wouldnt get the convertes. The amp does the same thing internally and the cheap converters just inject more noise and interference into the system.

SiG will become famous soon enough SiG will become famous soon enough
When i got my car and was anxious to get my system up and running, i tapped into the rear speakers to get my subs going. Didnt have funds for a deck so stayed with the stock deck on that for a while. For the amp, i ran a wire through the firewall from the battery to the amp.

i also put a switch to turn my amp on since it wasnt connected to the deck.

Hope that helps a bit.

Anyway just wondering if anyone has any advice for me as im going to court to fight it. The ticket was issued by a municipal police force in Ontario.

Well I tapped into the rear speakers to get it going. No noise. Sounds really good. Today I replaced the rear factory speakers with the Sony's and are running them off the rear two channels on the amp. I did the noise test and with the gain at 1/2 there was very little noise. I have been running the gain on the mids and highs at 1/4 and there is absolutely no noise whatsoever. Next week I am going to run the wires and do the front door speakers.

By the way I tapped into the power outlet wire in the console for a remote wire for the time being until I rip the radio out and investigate it further. I was kinda pressed for time yesterday.

I put a 10" sub in a box I built for a 15" woofer. It sounds so good. It has like 2.6 cubic feet of airspace and still hits so hard and deep. It sounds like a high end 12" sub and it is a cheap 10 (pioneer). It will suffice for now.........

Next up dynomat....

Search button, learn it, use it, love it. This has been covered at least 3,000-5,000 times on here. And before you ask about sound deadening, refer to the stickied DIY at the top before asking questions. Then you may also want to search for the tag deadening DIy, and moving the trunk latch DIY. Just a thought.

LakelandCivic,
First of all welcome and hopefully we can help. A couple of things that you will learn from this forum:

1) Please search first. We don't mind the questions, but they tend to be discussed at length through numerous posts. I'm not knocking this post, I'm just saving you from the forum nazis that will.

2) For the most part, the forum will reitterate the following. Take these as givens, Sony=Crap, stock=crap, and the alarm is all about the install.

3) Honda made it a little more difficult to change the HU and speakers than most car companies, but there are DIY on this site that are very detailed.

4) We are polytheist here, our gods are Ludlam, MohawkBoom, and White Rabbit. (or at least they use to be in the beginning).

Good luck, and hope you get some new stuff soon.
