You know with most things speaker related, knowledgable people are gonna say that speakers are all personal preference...but I think that most people will agree that the JL W7 series are awesome subwoofers...probably the most innovative subwoofer since the CV stroker.

I have not heard the other woofers, but the PG is not the top of the line for PG...and not many people have heard the Type X sub.

Of course I was gonna say that, just look at my avatar

What does it matter if you get a different brand of head unit? If you get JL all around you will have to get a different brand of HU as well. If you want your deck to match the speakers, your choices are going to be much more limited, of course Alpine is still an excellent choice, but you definitely lose a lot of variety.

The W7 is the first woofer I'd ever heard where I thought 2 of them would be overkill!

I've heard JL subs before and ALWAYS have been impressed.. I have 2 12" TypeRs (Alpine) and I love them, not to say I wouldnt like 2 JLw3v2 12s better, but thats what I have currently and I think the TypeX is just a bigger better version of TypeR, I'd probably go by price and what kinda amp I have, if I was buying new amp + sub then I'd price amps/subs.. and get the best I can afford..

Phoenix Gold! I'm going with Megagurtz here - definately the best bang for your buck (literally--BANG!). If you asked for more options I would reccomend the Adire Audio Shviva as I usually do. Great sub and a great price ($125) - goes really low and hits very hard! If you're inclined to stick to those choices though - the Phoenix Gold is your best bet and you'll be very happy with it
