Re: DIY: Head unit install

Hi there!
Have the same problem with head unit, 1st I was yust pulling it out - didn t know that there are any bolts didn t work. Today tried to get it out trought glovebox- same. Then decided to google it , so here I m
I m from Latvia and there are may be five or six EM2 Coupes so no info how to DIY.
Some of the words you all write I dont understand and when i look in dictionary it translates into something wierd, so please corect me if I understood wrong:

To remove the front panel where the CD player and heat;flow;AC;rear window heater controls are I have to remove that silver ring around shift knob, then pull a little to get cigarette lighter out. Then I should have acess to 2 bolts, remoove bolts and then push from behind a little and then yust pull it out in front?

Car is Em2 coupe 2001 manual made in USA

Almost, but not quite. You don't just remove the silver ring, you remove the entire flat black piece that the silver piece is attached to. By pushing down on your shift boot (the material around the shifter), you can feel plastic pieces that you should pull up on. This is the first thing you do, then do the rest.

Re: DIY: Head unit install

so far so good. -did everything including removing the two screws, but the head unit still won't budge. i'll keep pushing harder or try pulling more from the front.

What's the little black box in there marked 'HONDA ABS'? - it's plugged in a wire, the wire is taped to a second wire leading to the cigarette lighter?
that for brakes or stereo?

Re: DIY: Head unit install

The pods are very tight the first time out, try to get top or bottom first and then keep working it. Avoid using prying tools if possible. I had to push from behind using the metal bracket. Very tight.

Can't say on the box could be ABS plastic ?? (coded for recycling)

Re: DIY: Head unit install

Got it out! i'm so proud of myself.
now i'm just confused about what kind of adapter/wiring/harness i need to connect to my ipod headphone jack. i tried taking a picture of the back of my stereo. anything look right? do i plug an adapter into the existing port on the left or use the already existing wires on the right?

the second picture is the little black box that says 'honda abs'. the wire on its left is for the cigarette lighter. still can't figure out what it is though.

thanks

Yaaaaaaaaa, you lost me too. I had you while you were trying to get the stereo out but once you mentioned the iPod you lost me. You can't plug an iPod into a stereo with no inputs bro.

Re: DIY: Head unit install

oh, so you do still have the stock deck. you cant really do anything with that thing.

i wouldnt even bother with any of that man. it looks like you would have to buy both the harness and the bigger unit too.

you can get a really nice aftermarket deck that has an ipod connecting wire coming out of it, right off of ebay for the same as what you would spend doing this whole thing. you also will be able to add rca cables if you want to add a sound system, you can change all your audio settings, etc etc. you can do so much more with it for the same price, it performs way better, and it looks way nicer.

heres an example. this is the exact one i have in my car. its very nice, has a lot of features, and you can change the displays and stuff on it. its black and silver with blue display lighting. it comes with a wire that plugs right in the back and comes out that you plug right into your ipod. you can control your itunes music right on the deck too so you dont have to mess with the small ipod.
