MA Amps...?? Ever heard of them

Are MA Amps any good I am looking at one MA HK-597 it is rated at 4 X 200 wrms @ 4 OHMS. I find that kinda hard to beleive. I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of the company and how good these amps really are. I am looking to replace my sh?tty Kenwood KAC 646 (35 max X 4) for my incar speakers.

I am not looking for recommendations of other amps, just on what you guys think of this amp.

MA is OK but I doubt that amp is not putting out that power that it is claiming

Doubtful... judge the probable power output based on a few things:

1) Price. A more expensive amp will be more likely to put out it's claimed power than a dirt cheap amp. Price isn't everything but it will give you a good indictation.

2) Physical size. An amp that is 6"x12" won't put out 200x4 in a million years. Again, size isn't everything but it will give you a good indication.

3) Fusing. An amp with 20-30 amps of fusing on it obviously is not designed to put out 200x4. You will need a lot of current to generate that kind of power so make sure the amp is fused accordingly.

MA Audio is pretty well known, kind of an entry-level amp though,

200W RMS Is very doubtful, I have never seen an amp that creates that much power unless it was created by God himself.

Well you never know, I've sort of heard that God was getting into electrical engineering these days to make a few extra bucks

And that RMS power is probably at 14.4 volts, I doubt any car runs a constaint 14.4 volts. so the amp probably is only pushing about 100- 125 maby at 12.5 13 volts. Im probably off a little but it gives you an idea. JL is an amp that will put out 500 rms at 11.5-14.4 volts, you donot lose power.

Well you wont lose that much power, when you are 12-13 volts you lose about 15% from 14.4 so it would be about 170

I just talked to my buddy who used to work for MA and he says that amp puts out around 60x4 before it starts clipping

He also said it's a POS, so don't buy it. This guys opinion is worth trusting

From my experience MA audio is crap. BTW, 200x4 is quite possible, MB Quarts Q series 4 channel does that...but it also costs $1500.

Price isn't a good indicator. JBL amps put out their rated power, yet are able to be had dirt cheap.

Physical size also isn't a good indicator. I have an old Fosgate amp that's about that same size that easily puts out 600-700 watts. Back when they made them worth a crap.

lots of amps make that power, i hope you were thinking something else.

arc amps are pretty small and pack quite a punch. then again, i've seen some pretty big zapco and ppi amps that weren't super powerful (weren't designed to be either).

MA audio comes from a company that largely makes crap.

Ok so what brands should I be looking at for a 4 channel - dont have room for a huge amp on my board. Currently I have a KAC 646 so I need the new amp to be around that size, any suggestions? MTX404? I got infinitiy 605 comps and infinitiy 62.5 in the rear

Lightning Bolt B2.400.4?
