Make sure eveyrthing looks like it was secured, and make sure you have all receipts...

Other than that it really all depends on the adjustor...

^^^ that is correct...must talk to ur auto insurance company and pay extra premium to cover stuff like that. Even if you have comprehensive insurance coverage, you will have to pay another premium to protect stuff you've installed on your car. Comprehensive only covers whatever came with the car stock. =/

With my current insurance, I am covered up to $1000 on my stereo, otherwise I need to pay 15% of what my system is worth. I opted out for that one, as that number would have been sky high, around 600 bucks or more I am guessing.

Don't know if yours would be the same, but if it is, you will be fine if your stereo isn't worth much.

When mine was stolen a while ago, he gave me an initial replacement value of what the insurnace company decided on. It was barely anything, but with receipts I was able to get the FULL value of what I paid. Worked out in my favor that time as I was sick of the gear anyway and was looking for an excuse to buy a new system.

Make sure you had it secured to the vehicle. If it was not secured, they won't cover it. I had my system stolne, this was the case with me. So I was out about a grand cause I didn't have it secured to the vehicle. If it wasn't, you could always go out and make it look like it was secured to the vehicle, and break a few things (that are easily replaced, such as the trunk floor piece, etc) Yes, that's shady, but if you're desperate, I would suppose it could, theoretically, work.

Your stereo is worth more than $6,000??? Do you have something other than what you've listed in the past?

On a side note, my ins. covers everything in my car, and I dont pay any extra premiums....

I got my stuff stolen bout 3 yrs ago and my homeowners insurance covered it. I had a $0 deductible. I provided receipts for my CD player and EQ and they took off 10% for depreciation. I gave them a list of all the CD's stolen and they gave me like $16 per CD, they gave me over $200 for my cell phone that i paid 1 penny for and they even gave me like $15 for the CD holder

Well I was guesstimating more along the lines of 4000, but in reality its more about 2500 or so, maybe a little more for everything.

I do count the labor for a little bit, the hundreds of hours I've put into my car should count for something.

I don't know what I've listed in the past, but I've always got something new almost every week or 2

thanks for the help so far guys/girls. i have another question: two of the things that got stolen were kind of old and i don't know exactly what the model numbers were. it was a kenwood amp and a kenwood bandpass box (plexiglass with two red 10in subs) is there any way to look at older equip from kenwood and find out model numbers. I am sure the ins. co. will need that

the other amp that was stolen was my brand new jl 300/4 thank god i have the receipt for that.

another question? if i give them the receipts are they going to give me the retail price or the price i paid..
the reason i ask is b/c i bought the jl 300/4 for $299 (special price) i would not be able to get that price again.

if they give me the price i paid it is going to suck

they are gonna give you the price listed on the receipt, maybe even less for "depreciation". If you bought from a shop, see if they will issue a new receipt with the correct price on it but an old date. you should be able to go on kenwoods website and view old manuals and model numbers.

I had my stuff stolen a few months ago (I have an alarm) along with my car getting vandalized and the insurance paid for the whole thing. I pay an extra $70 a month for "Customized Vehicle Protection" or something like that.. I don't remember what it's exactly called. Anyways, it covers up to $10,000. Stereo, rims, tires, body kit damage (although I don't have a body kit but someday lol), and other things like that. Anyways, just as long as you have receipts, your insurance should pay for at least some of your things

When my gear was stolen, I was given the price listed on the receipts without deprecation, but of course, policy may vary between insurance companies

My stereo, cds, cd cases, sunglasses were all found and i have them! i had a pioneer deh p6300 im lookingi nto getting the new 7600 or 8600. whats the wisest thing to do in order for the insurance to cover me? any advise/suggestions greatly appreciated!

i talked to the insraucen lady and she said my insurance covered me on everything! im also covered on my wheels (but thats beside the point)

and does a claim bump your premium up? if it does but how much?

How do they cover your stuff if you already got it back?

Your premium is different depending on who your insurance is with... I think with mine, one claim doesn't change the premium, but 2 claims might.

If you recovered your original property, then accepting the ins. money for your stuff is insurance fraud. You can only collect on damage to the vehicle or anything still missing.

Some insurance companies will tag you with depreciation, some won't. Just depends on the company, and the extent of your coverage. Like I said, my regular policy covers my stereo, while some people have to get extra coverage.

so if i claim for getting my windows fixed - will this up the premium or does this depend on insurance company? sorry for the "naive" questions - never put in a claim before!

Depends on the company

Window is not that expensive, and depending on whether or not your premium will go out you may want to consider just replacing the window out of your own pocket.

i had my system stolen. my insurance covered all of it. i actually ended up getting more than what i paid for it. i didnt have receipts for any of it either. i just took my car to a audio shop my insurance company told me to go to, the owner checked out the damage and i told him what equipment i had. he then just pretty much wrote down the retail price for everything and sent it to the insurance company. the insurance gave me the cheapest price they could find for all the stuff i had.
i don't know who my insurance company is, my parents handle that stuff, but im sure you can get some kinda compensation out of it.

I know this thread is dead, but it is Homeowners in AZ you have to claim, it depends on the state I believe. I got my subs/amp, 250+ Cd's, backpack w/100 dollar calculator, 4 $80 books, plus some smaller things. I got 1000 from HOMEOWNERS Ins. (majorly screwed, over $4000 in CD's)

But is it not auto insurance if everything is bolted down to the car, effectively making it part of the vehicle?

What can you do to protect yourself? Now that I'm kinda getting into car audio I would be interested to know. How do you make your car not a target? I guess they would assume that cars with a lot of visible mods (rims, wings, etc.) might have good stuff inside, too, right? So do you think a stock car would be less at risk for audio theft?

What about your face plate? Can someone look through your windows and see that you have an aftermarket $1000 deck? Don't they make detatchable face plates? Could they tell from looking at the part that is left when you remove it what kind of deck you have, or are they all universal?
