I'm trying to understand why my 2012 Civic HF wiggles back and forth at highway speeds... It was on of the 'faults' that knocked the Civic as an 'Recommended ' car from the major car magazines in 2012.
Fast forward to 2013/2014 ...Honda listened and made changes to address this. I believe its via their alignment. So does any one know / have the alignment specs for 2012 and 2013 /2014 they car share??
Thanks in advance.

Re: Civic 2012 vs 2013 Alignment Specs
Haven't driven a 2012 or a 2013 however I know my 2014 is very steady at highway speeds(and also at 100 mph, it's nice to have friends with private roads on the middle of nowhere)
The turns don'f feel as steady as my 2006, but I have sport tires on 18" HFP rims on that, as compared to the 16 inch rims with continental tires on the 2014 so that's probably just a difference in tires.
The technical specs say this about the suspension on my EX:
MacPherson Strut Front Suspension
Multi-Link Rear Suspension
Don't know if that is just a fancy way of saying the normal suspension, or if its actually something different from previous models or not.

Re: Civic 2012 vs 2013 Alignment Specs
Looked at specs for 12 and 14, they are exactly the same for the regular cars that were built in US and Canada. (Si gets different specs)
Front toe 0mm, +/-2mm
rear toe +2mm, +2/-1mm
F caster 5*19' +/-30'
F camber 0 +/-30'
R camber -0*45' +/-45'
Wheels and tires play a huge role in handling and feel....
Have you had your alignment checked? If you live in snow and pothole country, we recommend getting alignment checked every spring (after snow and curb season LOL).

What type of car are you used to driving, and do you live in a windy area? You might not be used to driving a light car that can be pushed around a lot easier than a heavier car would be.

my snow tires did wiggle a lot more on windy days than my more summer tires (stiffer carcass tires).
are you on no-name cheapo tires? they tend to do that.
the 8th gen separated the springs from the shocks, then there was the rear control arm issues, aside from that i thought there were no big changes in the rear suspension?
did you check you tire pressures?

12 HF is on 15" wheels with 195 65 15 tire.
IIRC,
14 HF LX are on 15"
14 EX is on 16"
14 EXL is on 17"
14 SI gets 18"
Bigger diameter rim + lower profile tire = less squirm

I will try to run different pressures in the rear so if they do squirm, it will not be a noticeable. Oh alignment was checked at 74 miles when it was new. Norm Reeves Honda in West Covina said right rear was off...while fixing this , they screwed up the 9 and 3 position on the steering wheel.....I tried to have them to correct. They mentioned if steering is 1/2 inch off..it's still in specs. Honda corporate would not help too. Based on the lack of support , this will be the Honda purchase ( I've bought 6 over the years ) I've used my $ to make my point and bought a new Subie WRX STI to run around too.
Thanks to all that contributed to this tread.
Enjoy your weekend
