Super Bowl Parties??

Who's having one?

My roomie and I are! (although I'm running the show as far as invites and cooking and cleaning and stuff...)

Any fun ideas or good food to make? Or any other good ideas?? (I'm new at this Super Bowl party thing... I've only been, never thrown)

Just wondering... I'm uber-bored, but hyper as heck!

Hey Rach, I'm having one. I'd invite you over but by the time you drive out here it'll be next week

Anywho, I'm making a little bit of this and a little bit of that. BBQ is always good, hot dogs, brats, that sort of thing.

Then you allways need to have chips and dip. I recommend 3 types of dip and 4 types of chips. You have tortilla, some BBQ, some sour cream and some Doritos. Now, as for dips, salsa, cheese, and guacamole.

I'm also having a little veggie platter with carrots, broccoli, celery, mushrooms, and maybe some cooked esparagus. Now, you need ranch dressing, blue cheese, and some honey mustard.

You can also have a little meat and cheese platter with some crackers. Ritz works just fine. Wheat thins do as well.

Oh, and the most important part: Beer! You can BYOB, buy a few cases, or better yet, get a keg. If you go for the keg get what most ppl drink, bud light and coors light are the most popular.

Now all you need is a 52'' plasma flat widescreen with PIP so you can have the Spice chanel on as well. Oh, wait, that's just at my house...

Few good ideas... I'm quite impressed! Looks like you've got things under control! Here's what I have planned so far:

As of right now, appetizer-like stuff only... I'm serving:
- tomato-basil pizza bread
- Grecian party squares (basically spinach artechoke dip on a crescent-roll crust... YUMM!!!)
- 7-layer taco dip
- pigs in blankets (little hot dogs wrapped in buscuits...'cept I'm getting regular hotdogs and cutting them up... it's cheaper)
- I may make a baked salami... but I have to see if I can find a cheap place to get salami in peoria

A friend offered to bring something, I said bring chips and dip... so I'll see what he comes up with and I may go for a relish try type thing, but being a broke college student (and having a not-so-broke roomie who thinks she knows all and is broker than anyone around) I'll have to see.
The BBQ idea is good, and suiting, but it's well below 0 here right now and my George Foreman won't cut it (plus my dishwasher ate the grease catcher )
I'm doing BYOB... I'm not 21 and neither is my roomie, but people are welcome to bring their own stuff. We're serving other random soda.
I'd do a keg, but if my landlord were to find out I'd get kicked out (it's on the lease, no kegs)...
Besides, I can't drink anyways (long story short: medical reasons) so yeah, let those who can drink and who want to drink bring their own stuff.

Anyways thanks again for the ideas (and the quasi-invite ). Hope all goes well! My guest list is small, but I'm woo-ing people over with the whole home-cooked-food thing I've got goin' on Gotta love off-campus living!

I'm gonna have a kegger in my backyard, supposed to be in the mid 60's, and sunny.

Maybe I should pick up a widescreen HDTV, then return it on Monday since I can't afford one. Circuit City
will take an item back no questions asked

I'm quite impressed myself! You had some very good ideas Rach. That tomato-basil pizza bread sounds really yummy! Maybe spread some pesto on a pita and bake it for a little while, then top with some mozzarella. Maybe I'll do the same...I'm getting hungry now and just finished breakfast.

As for the weather, it's just as cold here as it is there probably. Well, not below 0 but it's in the mid teens to low twenties and snowing (Spokane, WA.) And I know all about being a broke college student, I was one for 3 years. And sorry about the not being able to drink thing...not even wine?

My guest list is about 15 ppl, and I only have room in my living room for about 8, and that's pushing it. Most will have to stay standing. I guess the women can hang out in my roommies room and watch tv there if they don't like football, or in my computer room. We'll see.

Anyways, good luck with your party, the worst part isn't planning, it's cleaning up. Oh, and you can allways make some wings!!! They're allways a party fav. Just take some Frank's Hot Buffalo Sauce and marinate them overnight, then bake for 25-30 minutes in a 350 degree oven and then pour some more sauce over them and serve. You can get a 5 lb. bag at the supermarket for like 8 bucks and it feeds a village.

The tomato bread is fabulous... if you want the recipie let me know (it's a cinch to make too!).
No alcohol what-so-ever... I've had acid reflux since I was 2 years old and JUST recently found out that (despite what my gastroenterologist said (all things in moderation when it comes to alcohol) I absorb alcohol faster than normal people, so i can get drunk faster, but i can also get alcohol poisoning or die faster, so yeah, I'm staying away from all. Kinda sucks but it's not really that hard for me to do.
Wings are a good idea... but I dont know how many people I'm having will eat them. Your BBQ idea is still good, so I may order from Famous Dave's for dinner (i think i even have coupons... and whoever's there can go in on all we order too). AND I think they deliver

Anyway, off to get ready to go out into the tundra to get food and stuff... later

thats an awesome idea---make sure to find out all the conditions of that return policy just in case

the boys at the all-guys dorm are havin a huge party in the basement common room. all our common rooms have massive tv's, pool tables, and lots of sofas and such. alcohol is risky but i bet they'll find a way around it. other than that i hear people are pitching in with tons of snack food and such. it'll be crazy
