I opened my account with Bank Of America in Atlanta sometime late August or early September and when I signed up they told me anyone who opened an account that day got $25. Plus, since I was being referred by a friend, him and I also receive another $25 each. Awesome right? Well After a while I didn't get my money and here's the email conversation back and forth with the bank:

$25 - On the day I signed up for my account, the guy that opened my
account for me handed me a little piece of paper that said I get $25
just for opening my account and nothing else. The Terms And Conditions
stated that my account must be open for 90 days and in good order and
then the $25 would be automatically deposited into my account. My
account has been open for more than 90 days and I do not see the
deposit.
$25 - When I opened my account I signed up through a friend Allan
XXXXXXX and was told each of us would get $25 after my account was open
for 90 days. I don't see this deposit.

We understand you are concerned about the account closure notice you
have received. We show the account has carried an outstanding balance
for several days. Partial deposits are accepted to help correct the
balance. If the balance remains outstanding for 120 consecutive days,
the account may still be in jeopardy of closing.
Each overdrawn account is evaluated on a case by case basis. The
decision to close the account is made by the banking center manager
where the account is maintained. You may be referred to ChexSystems or a
collection agency, either of which could impact your ability to open a
new account with any financial institution. We recommend visiting the
banking center and discussing the options that you have to rectify the
outstanding balance. To locate a convenient banking center near you,

OK, I've told them what their balance is and how to get a hold of me with further questions, there's no need to continue the email charade. Plus it's giving me a headache with the cookie cutters. If they don't deposit the interest I'll write them again or maybe just call them. I don't anticipate having my money until the end of the ninety day period though.
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
I think you'll get it. When dealing with banks just stand your ground and don't back down. Just go in there and ask to talk to a manager then raise hell until you get your $. Any time I have ever had an issue with any of my accounts that is what I did and I got what I asked for.
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
I think they owe you an additional $50 late payment fee, plus an automatic APR adjustment to the "default" APR of 36.25%. You should write them off to a collection agency as bad debt!! After 1 month; wankers

Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
This should just turn into a rant thread, I went back there today and not surprisingly I'm stressed out again.
I went down simply to convert my $215 Canadian that's been sitting on my desk into some USA money. When I get there the girl asks if I'm a customer there and for my card. I asked her why and she didn't know, she just said that's the way they do it. But I can go talk to the manager in the lobby which is what I did. When I talked to her, she said it's to guard against counterfeiting, they send the money off to a third party to check the bills and if they are counterfeit, they track me down from my account information and take the money back from me. That kind of makes sense but if they're dealing with money all day and doing transactions, them accepting counterfeit money really shouldn't be my problem. Especially since I have no idea about the validity of the bills I receive on a daily basis. So I asked her how I'm supposed to protect myself against receiving fake bills from other parties and her reply was to keep the receipts everywhere I get money from. So then I asked her if her suggested solutions were to either:
a) Keep track of every bill with serial number tied to every receipt I receive from a business and keep hard copies after spending the bill so I can trace it back should I submit a counterfeit bill to the bank
OR
b) Buy some sort of counterfeit checking machine which would check the bills prior to accepting them from a third party source.
She kept going off on a tangent about their policies and 3 times I had to stop her and tell her she hasn't answered my question and eventually she said yes, that those are my only options. Then I asked her if she understands how those options are unreasonable and after a few more tangents, she agreed.
So then I figured fuck it, I'll do it and get out of here. By the time anything comes back, my account will probably be closed with this stress factory. So I got to the teller and she said that since today's not a business day, the money probably wouldn't be credited to my account until Monday.....man, I felt like shooting the place up.......she can't just give me cash right away? Apparently the bank vault is closed and they can't do the exchange until Monday when they open the currency exchange vault again but they can process it and the funds will be available in my account on Monday. WTF? I still didn't understand why she couldn't just give me USA money then and she can deal with the currency exchange vault on Monday. But I was laughing about it the whole time, I told her I have an unpleasant history with Bank Of America and I'll just take it to another bank or Western Union or something. She then told me foreign exchange places would charge me a fee and another bank won't do it for me without an account.
Since I'd rather pay a fee than deal with that fiasco, I took my money and left, and didn't really believe another bank would turn me away just because I didn't have an account there. So I went across the street to Citibank and got my money exchanged on the spot. Although that wasn't without its headaches, he charged me $5 for it and also gave me a .93 exchange rate. WTF? Is this right? I have a plugin on my desktop which shows me the current rate and right now it's 1.00 - 1.007......that doesn't sound right. And he didn't even give me a receipt!
Holy hell, what a weird day! But anyway, I thought people might find it funny, hopefully everyone else is having a stress free Saturday!
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
Bank of America sucks. Wait for your 50 some odd bucks, withdraw it, and close your account. Find somewhere else to bank. Thats my .0186 (Im only giving .93 of my full 2 cents).
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
NAFTA for one thing... you know on your taxes if you want to claim someone they have to be a citizen of the United States... Or Canada, Or Mexico. I didnt know that until reading the tax code last night. The doors are open to free trade, although the cutroseys extend further.
I work in customer service at a department store and deal with issues everyday. When customers try to act out and get what they shouldnt be able to get (like putting product on a clearance rack and demanding the clearance price), we stick to the books. But if its somebody chill and they are like whatevers about it, then I hook them up. So moral- be nice to the ppl and level with them, dont try giving them a hard time and fighting the system, and they'll be much more willing to help you. The system that your having to deal with, they have to deal with as well.
Anyways, glad u got your money exchanged.
As far as the extra $2.06 - I think its fair if you hold them to the same money transfer rules as they do to you, but life isnt always fair.
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
wow do you really want my opinion on this one??
Bank of America SUCKS!!! i've heard bad shits bout them. go with BB&T, they're good and professional.
1. about the refer a friend program, obviously it's some sort of an automated response system. i don't think you'll get paid for what the interest they would've "owed" you. cmon man i don't think it would be more than a dollar worth of interest anyway. lolz.
also, i do believe that you will get your referral check eventually, they are just stupid like that and see who actually follows thru.
2. as far as your incident with the bank exchange.. OMG dude, you know too damn well that banks ask for identification no matter what. if you showed them your ID then i didn't think you would've had to deal with all that. you were being stubborn and you got what you asked for, a headache. sometimes the easiest thing to do is cooperate and avoid problems. i hope you catch my drift.
lastly, like someone said, wait for the free money that they're giving you... once received, close your account and go somewhere else. i sure wouldn't want anybody's business if they can't treat me right. you deserve better, and please act better as well... lolz.
Re: Making the bank pay me interest on money owed.
In the olden days with some core members and more peer pressure this thread could go down in history. It is still funny nonetheless..I rarely lol @ threads; but today was different...i lol'd.
