its a bad drive. i had software working fine then all of a sudden it starts messing up during writing, then it wouldn't even recognize whether a cd was blank.

Try using Nero I have used Roxio Easy CD Creator which came with my Dell 8200 PC but then it use to give me the same message and it use to stop burning CD's half way into the process. Download Nero and get the serial number and you should be set.
BTW, my DVD drive is beginning to mess up now also for some reason it can not play regular music CD's I guess I just have to replace it.

dvd's come in different speeds and capacities. more than likely the problem is on your end with not buying the correct type.
gotta check out what speed/type dvd drive you have. go to my computer, right click on drive, and go to the properties.
