as we all know, the US got 103 medals in the olympics. Canada got 12. now do the math
the population of canada is a bit over 30 million. the population of the US is over 300 million, so the ratrio of canada:USA, is 1:10
so that means that the 103 medals the US got is equal to 10.3 medals in canada. we got 12, so we did better then the states, woo hoo

Your ratio is wrong since you are assuming that the entire population represents the sample proportion.
If you want an accurate ratio, you need the number of athletes, the number of events each country has enlisted in, and the number of medals. At that point you either take a simple ratio , or do an ANOVA table. So no, you are wrong...

He does make a point... It only makes sense that the more population you have to choose from will yield more athletes...
Canada won Woo Hoo
Lets get a majority vote! Who thinks that Canada won? and Who thinks that the US won? hahahaaha can anyone guess how this voting is gonna turn out? hahaha
that is one way to look at it. another way would be to look at it through land mass.
3,511,006 square miles of Canada
3,537,422 square miles of America
.00000341782383738 medals per square mile in Canada
.0000316614755039 medals per square mile in America
9.2636 times more medals in America... not as impressive as I thought it would be when I started but I am gonna post it anyway

That doesn't work either How many people live in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut? A total of 100 thousand. My city alone has a population of like 3/4 million and those 3 territories make up at least 1/3 of Canada's land mass. I know you stated it's "another way" of looking at it, but it too is not accurate
