well, canada didnt do very well, and thats why i am trying to come up with anything to raise our spirits.
Our problem is funding, our athletes get next to nill when it comes to funding, and every 4 years we do bad, the government says we will do something, and then does nothing.
oh well.
They should do what our athletes do... ENDORSEMENTS!!! Have a few take steriods and do some GNC commercials or something.

LoL, i think you guys need something better to do then to calculate which country is better.
Agreed. Besides, neither country is "better" per se.. granted each has their own advantages and disadvantages.

P.S. Statements like that are part of the reason why the rest of the world don't particularly like Americans. P.P.S. Regarding the Olympics portion of this thread.. US owns at the Olympics, Canada is "meh". End of story
since i seem to be the only dumbass on here that missed the olympics can a get a quick recap
In addition to Tareon's reply:
Olympic Winnings per Gold Medal each athlete. Each country will reward an athlete:
Romania's Women Gymnast: Two Cars each, Free College Education, lifetime rent of home along with $50,000 bonus on each. (Average monthly income in Romania is $170/month)
Ukraine: $100,000 plus FREE apartment in Kiev
Russia: $50,000 TAX Free. Russian Olympic Committee is persuading companies to chip in up to $200,000 add'l. If an athlete wins a gold and break an Olympic Record or World Record, it will be an add'l $50,000
US:
$25,000 for Gold
$15,000 for Silver
$10,000 for Bronze
Plus, product endorsements that are very rare in any other country.
Iran:
Iranian weightlifter gold medalist holds a Greek citizenship. Greece offered him $20,000/mo to switch allegiance but refused. He said he was committed to competing for his homeland.
Thai lifter:
Won gold and Thai PM handed her $24,000 personal money. But the biggest reward Udomporn got was from her Father and Grandfather...pledged to take temporary vows as Buddhist monks to show their thanks.
Iraq:
$25,000 for gold medals
Philippines:
The country wants one so badly it's offering a bonus of $125,000.
Albania:
The poorest country in Europe is only offering $10,000
just a question, in the states, how much does an athlete get as a yearly salary ?

another consideration for the ratio (though some may have already mentioned it, i didnt read everything). A lot of the people competing for other countries live in the US. So how many citizens from the US would actually compete for the US? Do all of Canada's athletes reside in canada?

That's a good point, including most canadian athletes. I officially take credit for all of the foriegn athletes that train or go to school here in the US. I think that pretty much means most medal winners.
In reference to earlier, I'm not sure that Olympic athletes (by and large) do get paid while getting prepared for the Games. I could be very wrong, but I thought the Olympics (aside from the fecal matter of pros coming into the big sports) was designed to be a competition for amateurs?

Yeah, that one gymnast needed a 25k donation from Pam Anderson just to be able to get to the olympics.
We don't pay athletes over here. We do things the american way. We let the kids' rich parents pay their way over.
