i read in one of the "Stupid Laws" books at Borders and there was one law that said that it is illegal to peel an orange in a hotel room. WTF?

most of the stupid laws are more vague than they are described. these are exceptions. i'm not 100% sure, but i think this one is a perfect example:

If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.

is probably more vague like this:

if anything is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.

but you could say:

If a stack of magazines is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.

I know of some pretty stupid ones, in Boston it is illegal to take a bath on sundays (law from the 1800's that never died)

Also in Denver it is illegal to walk your horse backwards down mainstreet on bank holidays (come on who rides their horse in downtown anyways?)
