Anyone in here Catholic, or well voiced on Catholic faith and beliefs? I've been reading up a lot lately on Catholicism and have some questions that probably can't be answered by just anyone. I might need to consult a Priest, but I'm hoping the good ole Civic site will once again come to my aide. Anyone well knowledged wanna talk by PM, or on AIM, MSN, or Yahoo? Thanks.

Do it in here if you can. I have a friend here at work that is Catholic and has some questions about the faith. I'd like to be able to show her this post. Especially because her boyfriend wants her to be Jewish.
I can share them here I guess. My question is about the confessional part and sinning. I read somewhere that God knows what you do and don't know. Meaning that if you commit a sin, but you don't know that it's a sin, then it's not held against you. Its only bad when you know that it's sinful and you do it anyways.
So with that being said. There are different levels of sin. . Venial sin and mortal sin are the 2 big ones. What if before you understood the faith and the beliefs you committed a mortal sin (aka breaking 1 or several of the 10 commandments). You did this knowing it was a sin, but you didn't know it was a mortal sin. Since you didn't know it was a mortal sin, is it less of a sin, than if you knew?
Does that make sense?

it doesnt matter what kind of sin it is and when you commit it, as long as you go to confession and are truly sorry for it and do your pennace you will be forgiven of it.
Kidding. Seriously, the point of confession is to not only admit your sinning, but is the ritual act of asking for forgiveness, and receiving a penance and reconciliation.
It's the difference between owning-up to your sins, and just merely saying you sinned.
Well. . The reason I ask is because if I convert. . I'll have to be confirmed and have my first confession. I have to do the confession and confess all of my mortal sins before I'm allowed to receive holy communion, because you can't just receive if you are in a state of mortal sin. Venial sins are sins that you need to confess, but aren't required to spill out to receive communion.
Anyways. I have a huge list of sins and if and when I go to the first confession I plan on confessing all of my mortal sins, maybe a few Venial sins as well. But I'm not sure if the things I did, not knowing it was a mortal sin is actually a mortal sin, because I didn't know. So basically I don't know if I'm living in a state of mortal sin or not. If I knew that the things I did were Mortal Sins and did them anyways, then yes. Although I knew what I was doing was sinful, I didn't know about different levels of sin.
I suppose just to be on the safe side I can just spill everything..
Did I confuse everyone yet? Or are we still following?

oh yeah...anyone know about the creddle song that the south park kids sang?
oh, anyway...from what i know from my catholic school...
u don't have to think about your sins if u want to convert...
as long as you trully believe....and ready to pace new steps on your new life.....you're pretty much all set to convert.
cos' its based on the idea that....ur sins gonna be removed.....or so called...um....
am i sound to frankly?

I'm Catholic, had my first communion years ago and never went to confession once. I'm Catholic but I don't attend church, I ask for forgiveness at home when I pray. Catholics are strict but judge and ye shall be judged.
As far as the Jewish religion...they believe in "the coming of Christ" (I'm pretty sure I'm correct but please don't bash if I'm wrong). Christiantity believes Christ lived and died for our sins.
