I found this link on another forum and it is really interesting to see a ghost town. If you don't know Chernobyl is where a worker, in 1986, pushed a wrong button in a nuclear plant and the place went boom

On April 25th -26th, 1986 the World's worst nuclear power accident occurred at Chernobyl in the former USSR (now Ukraine). The Chernobyl nuclear power plant located 80 miles north of Kiev had 4 reactors and whilst testing reactor number 4 numerous safety procedures were disregarded. At 1:23am the chain reaction in the reactor became out of control creating explosions and a fireball which blew off the reactor's heavy steel and concrete lid.
The Chernobyl accident killed more than 30 people immediately, and as a result of the high radiation levels in the surrounding 20-mile radius, 135,00 people had to be evacuated.
The days go veritically instead of horizontally, and they seem to have left off Sunday. And then they left off May 8th, which would have been a Saturday.
Anyone know if this is the normal style for a Russian calandar?
^ if that doesn't work, it's the 2nd pic on this page.
Akimov was jailed for 14 years and as it was in tradition with soviet justice, they
put in prison all other people that worked on that day shift with no matter who
was guilty and who was not.....
Whoa, that sucks. I'd be pissed.
That's like what I heard happens in Japan... I heard if someone is caught cheating
on a test, everyone in the class fails !
I was 2 years old when this happened. My hometown is maybe 15 miles from Chernobyl.
The whole plant was very old and improperly maintained...... it didnt happen because someone pushed the wrong button. The whole plant was getting fund cuts and over loading the reactor because of the overwhelming demand of energy and the plant couldnt take it cuz it was a piece of old junk. And it happened.
That accident in Chernobyl was practically the main reason why my family decided to come to America.
What the USSR goverment did to cover that mess up is inhumane. They just dumped tons of sand on top, covering people who were trying to get out and covering people who were trying to help. That whole place is a hell hole.
Because this happened so close to home we had no choice but to leave that country because people were getting sick all over the place.
^ Hey HustleLikeM0FO, why is there no Sunday on that calandar? And do Russian calandars usually go vertically like that (as opposed to ours which go horizontally)?

Wow man that is insane. I can't believe that a government would do that in this day and age

Thats not even the worse part. They tried to cover it up. The people in Ukraine didnt even knwo this happened for 2 weeks.......
The government made sure that none of this was in the news and the citizens did not get a chance to leave the area until everything got cleaned up for 2 whole weeks. The only people who got their families out of Ukraine were politicians for the time being.
But finally 2 weeks after the accident, the news spread and people started leaving but the damage was already done.
This is definatly something you wouldnt learn in your history class. Messed up sh!t.
If you want something that will REALLY boggle your mind, check this out.
That Chernobyl website said "In Ukrainian language Chernobyl is a name for a grass, wormwood ".
In the bible, Revelation 8:10-11 reads:
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
A "star" falling from heaven that burned like a lamp, which was called Wormwood (Chernobyl).
Originally posted by turbsscivik MOFO the damage was already done pretty much when the carbon rods didnt cool down the reactor....
the damage was done. the damage that was done is still happening. i forget, how long does it take for radiation to clear? like 100 years or something... no clue but i knwo its a long time.
chernobyl does not mean wormwood in ukranian. so all that bible mumbo jumbo is BS.
i was born in kiev, which like someone said is 80 mile from chernobyl. i was 8 when it happened, and they evacuated all the children to the black sea (my sister and i both went).
hustlelikeamofo is right. we didnt find out from the gov't for a while. my family actually found out from our relatives in the US before the gov't made any announcement.
really sad. chernobyl was a really nice place to go and relax for the summer. i went there one time before the accident, had a great time.
Shows the docimeter (sp) with that high of a radiation level next to the plant that brought down the entire area. That's still friggin insane and I like how cool it looks....

BS? C'mon. Lets keep this civilized. Everything I've ever heard and read indicates that "Chernobyl" does in fact mean "wormwood". That chick in her website mentioned it. I even checked online language translators and they verified it as well. Granted there may be regional dialects and whatnot. Being a Spanish speaker I know that there are different words for the same thing from country to country.
