Rep Power: 0 General Engine Swap Info
I know that engine swaps are really talked about with Hondas, and especially with Civics. I am not going to be swapping engines anytime soon (unless I receive a boost of money and time, does anybody have some to spare? ) Anyways, I wanted to hear thoughts on what engine would be best, or if one is not "best," what are the advantages and disadvantages of each.
One more thing - could somebody please tell me which B16 engines are in the following cars?
Honda Civic Si USA
Honda Civic SiR JDM
Honda Civic Del Sol VTEC USA
Honda Civic Type R
Do any other cars use B16s?
One more thing to clarify - the Integra GS-R engine code is the B18C5, right?
Any info, lashing out, suggestions, general bitch sessions appreciated -

Rep Power: 0 B16 is in the 99 & 00 Si's & Del Sols. If you are doing any kind of swap I would got 5th gen hatch (CX or VX which are the lightest I believe) and get a B18C1. For the $$ spent, I thingk this is the best way to go. If you are thinking of a swap for the 7th gen, good luck, everything rotates the wrong way so its a big redisign of the engine bay for a 7th gen swap.
Check out Honda Motors Online for Bseries engine specs, roundabout costs, etc.. The link by emmagatorone is a good link as well. That site has the specs for the B20 motor. I dont thing I want a B20, because of the low hp. But its all about your budget.
You could get crazy & slap in a B20 or an H22 in a 5th gen. The B20 i believe has good torque, but crap HP. That can be fixed with F/I later though. The H22, i dont know much about that swap, but it seems a bit popular. I would check out ClubSi.com in their Hybrid forum if you are dealing with the B Series in a different Gen than the 7th gen.
Here are some specs to help you out:
Per the link above:
B18C1:
JDM: 180Hp 126Trq 10.6 Compression
USDM: 170Hp 121Trq 10.1Compression
I believe these are the Del Sol engines
B18C5:
JDM: 200Hp 11.1Compression
USDM: 195Hp 10.6Compression
B16A Sir1:
160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression
B16A Sir 2:
JDM: 170Hp 113Trq 10.4 Compression
USDM: 160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression
I believe these are the 99-00 Si engines.
There are so many ways to hybrid its rediculous. It all depends on you budget, time, & the power you want.
And the biggest thing is to RESEARCH THE PROJECT & RESEARCH IT AGAIN! It will be the difference in getting it done right to having continuous problems & unexpected expenses pop up every day.
My plan is to grab a 92 Hatch,
Probably throw in a B18C1.
Rip out everthing but the 2 front seats & the dash.
Full roll cage
Either a turbo or S/C down the road.
Body kit
carbon fiber hood.
typical I/H/E
4 wheel Disc conversion from an Integra (yes I know the 5th gen Si's come w/ 4 wheel discs but they are hard to come by)
etc..
What my goal is to make the car as light as possible and squeeze as much HP out of the motor as possible. I want something fast & something that feels like a driving machine. I want it to perform. Not be comfortable. I figure everything I want will run me a little over $10K. But I plan on most being piece by piece except for the motor swap itself obviously.
I recommend checking out ClubSi and browsing around there. Be careful, they will rip you up for being dumb, so search, read & get as much knowledge as you can before posting anything there.
Hope this helps.
