Weighted Shift Knob

Does anyone have one? I hear that they help in shifting so you can truly throw the stick in each shift without mis-shifting.

Anyone got any ideas about this?

Actually I hear they're not good for your tranny... because of the weight, it pushes the lever farther than it needs to go into the gate and stays there, so it forces the gears together and you can cause some damage to them.

I prefer something like a eight ball or a beer tap handle.

boilermaker: umm... I don't think that's the case with 7th gens ...

well ... a heavier knob will make your shifting easier ... cuz more inertia. I have a heavy razo knob ... weighs more than a pool table ball. Anyway, I think the heaviest one they have is like 400 grams ...

I have a tenzo shift knob, came with two different weights i dont see to much of a difference, but i dont believe that it will damage my transmission. I dont need a shift knob to help me with that.

It probably won't damage your transmission any more than you will from the type of driving you do. Since the gears are always constantly meshed, I don't see how they can be pushed closer together, though I suppose it could push the gear selector fork closer to the gear which wouldn't cause any damage because they're made to be meshed at any distance. The only damage I can see coming out of it is if you try to "throw" it into gear, and it doesn't go in and you do some grinding when you let the clutch out. Hope this helps
