Re: 5w 20w Motor Oil

what year civic, thats way too thick an oil. also there are a whole number of reasons for bad gas mileage. driving habits if you press the gas down alot, spark plugs, tire alignment and pressure, shocks, etc. endless parts contribute to mpg.

Re: 5w 20w Motor Oil

STICK WITH 5W-20 WEIGHT!!! Plain and simple just because you think it looks almost like water doesn't mean it acts like water and our motors have tighter tolerances that with any heavier weight of oil would put more stress and high oil pressure build-up on, that causes leaks in the long run and lowers engine life. The End.

Re: 5w 20w Motor Oil

what exactly was this drastic change, in one year, between the d16 and d17, that required the use of such a thinner oil? just curious, cause they are basically identical to me.

Gas mileage and engine longevity were in mind. D17's give out less power than D16's.

Re: 5w 20w Motor Oil

I use 5w-20 Penzoil Platinum and change the oil every 5,000 miles. I used the recommendations from BITOG and switched to PP from M1. No complaints and I also use this in our Mazda 3 in the same fasion.

Haha... Yeah, I hear you there. I was in Denver for many years and the car just had no power. I moved to <1000ft altitude this summer and now the car can make a pass on the freeway.
