I've gotten a awesome deal on an AEM CAI but i go to college in an area where there is always a couple feet of snow 8 months of the year. Will i have to worry about hydrolock as much in snow as in water ? Does anyone else have a CAI in a snowy area and if so what have your experiences been ?
Never had a problem with mine. Snow, road shit, Up to the bumper in water, I really don't see what everyones big panic is.
If its always wet, I might worry about the filter freezing... that happened to me once... took a half a minute or so, then I kinda heard it "pop" open, but AEMs can easily be converted to Short Rams.

you should NEVER drive a CAI without the bypass valve... with that you are ALWAYS fine, ANY weather..... for those that doubt its use, you havent been in the game long enough.. i know atleast 3 guys that water-logged thier engines without them.. for $30-40... you just cant lose
haha I dont have a bypass and I live in a very rainy area.. just watch out for the big puddles and you will never have a problem.. I don't and it rains at least 3 times a week here.. I did have a dream I drove through a river and my car would only run in first gear but other than that.. no problems..
i have the bypass... didnt lose my hissing noise at all. its acually louder when i turn the car off than it was b4.. sounds like a blow off vavle when i shift hard....
I installed my Injen CAI in the dead of winter, New Years Day 03 to be exact (it was a christmas present). I rode out the rest of a nasty canadian winter with it, no ill effects.
I have had my CAI with no bypass for two winters, never have had a problem. You probably will want to clean the filter when the weather gets warm though the amount of mud and sand collected in it is crazy
