Can anyone help me with a question on removing the chip in the remote. I want to know if I remove the chip from the remote to relocate it in a flip key I bought, will it lose the programing. Does it need wire leads to it? Just don't want to do it when I have only one working key and need to tow it to Honda

The immobilizer on the valet key does not have a battery. However, you program car to it. Guess if you are careful, you could get it out of plastic. My 07 only had one key. Dealer charged me $90 for a valet key and program. Had to have car to do it. Beats having it towed if you happen to lose key

All i have is one master key that the metal cut portion broke off. I have been able to still use it but would like to have the flip key work instead.

Here's the two places it could be

Check your key:


No wires, no batteries. Car remembers the chip, not the other way around.

If its stuck inside the head of the key, carefully cut it out and move it to the new housing.
Make sure it's placed close enough to the key to be read by the antenna ring in the steering column.

If the chip is soldered to the remote fob board, IDK. I haven't researched it myself. Found this thread while looking though

I have a 2007 civic Lx with the two button remote. My chip is saudered onto the circuit board. Just didn't know if I could take it off with out loosing the programing.

Sure hope you are good at soldering and have one of those small solder vacuums tools. Got mine from Ebay for a few dollars. The programming does not depend on the battery but who knows. Let us know. That's a good one. Guess the next car I get will be a HRV with a push button. They say it comes with a coupon to get the eprom surgically implanted.

you can request from Honda dealer providing your VIN temporary code to drive the car there with any key when you need programing.

Do you know a dealer i can call for the temporary code. The dealer here says there is no such thing. Removed the chip and now the new key with the chip in it, won't start the car. Damn. To the dealer for a new set of keys

The code you need is called "Immobilizer brake code".

Use of this may allow you to drive the car to the dealer to get it programmed, saving you a tow truck fee.

They will need your VIN to get the brake code.
They will need to explain how to use the code or maybe walk you through it over the phone.

Did you pull out the immobilizer chip or the soldiered alarm chip.

the chip should be in the same place in the new key or it will not work.
