I just got a letter from Honda Canada telling me about possible problems with 2006-2011 Honda Civics which have front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Apparently the front disc brake pads might wear out prematurely.

Owners who have experienced a problem are invited to bring their car in for servicing. If you have less than 12000km (on a minimum four year old car!!!), you get 100% coverage. Some coverage for 12000-32000km, but anything over 32000km means no rebate.

Yes, you get no help at all if your car has more than 32000km or is outside the 3 year new vehicle warranty at the time of the repair. Really, this is for cars built four to nine years ago! I suppose a few 2011 models were sold new late in 2012, but they must be very few indeed.

Thus, this notice helps virtually no one at all, except perhaps those who made repairs of this nature years ago AND managed to save their receipts.

I am really beginning to wonder about the mental acuity of the people who run Honda.

I remember getting a letter about this at least a year ago, maybe even a couple of years...

Didn't help my 2006 at the time regardless, but I think it wasn't COMPLETELY out of the reasonable zone for the later year cars...

Jordan1794, I have had the car since new in October 2007, and yes I am registered with Honda. I think it is that the US legal settlement has finally had some effect for those of us in Canada. Of course, the longer they wait, the fewer people will be able to make use of this rebate. It is of no use to me, as I have 37600km and the car is 7.5 years old, with no brake repair to date.

Well if you haven't had an issue yet, I doubt you have any defective parts.
I also think that this boiled down to being an issue of Honda using cheaper parts, rather than specifically defective ones...
For this reason, Honda probably doesn't believe they are in the wrong, and therefore just settled under terms that they knew wouldn't cost the much...

But that's all speculation...who knows where the truth lies.
