It started about 3 months ago, the D light would start flashing, and the car would act like it was stuck in second or third gear (automatic Transmission). Also the engine light would come on. I could shut the car off, and then start it back up, the D light would go off, the engine light would stay on of course, but everything worked as it should. This has happened very infrequently over the last couple of months, but started again this morning. I immediately checked the codes and am seeing a p2122 Throttle / Pedal Position Sensor / Switch D Circuit Low. Now I am wondering what to do next to resolve this. Does it need a new TPS?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

That's an APP sensor code, not a TPS code. Accelerator Pedal Position sensor.
I'd first check if the wire harness connector for the gas pedal is not fully seated/clicked securely in place. If it's loose and can be pulled off easily, that may explain the code.
(Really, I don't recall ever having to chase this code myself, the system seems to have been pretty darn reliable here.)
