If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You posted in 8th and 9th gens, that's 2006 and newer. I take these out the bottom.
WHY are you taking the engine out----cracked block? 8 years/unlimited mileage warranty coverage if title is clean.

It's a 2006 1.8L and it's not a cracked block.

Re: Remove the engine by the top?

I don't think it will come out the top, but I have never tried it that way. I think the intake will not go past the windshield. I could be wrong too.

It's definitely designed to go out the bottom.

I recover the freon and undo the AC hoses from the compressor, remove the power steering lines from the pump, and take the engine with the serp belt still installed, and wiring harness. Complete.

I drop the subframe out complete with steering rack, then slide a movers dolly under the car, block it up steady and unbolt the mounts. Drop the engine and trans together as a unit. Raise car up off the dolly.
Roll them to a work area and do whatever.
2 hours max without breaking a sweat, including a few cups of coffee.

No idea how a driveway job would go, sorry.
