Transmission?

Having problems with my 2000 civic si. the driver side cv joint went out. replaced it with a new one. the new joint came apart twice. the mechanic said that is due to the tranny not being the stock transmission or a honda civic transmission. he's not sure what kind to transmission it is. ideas? answers.
