I been looking at subwoofer systems but not sure what the best one would be for my 99 ex civic. Anyone know any good brands cause I'm new at this and most likely i'll have to change the other speakers since it's the factory radio. I'm thinking about getting the double box for my trunk and how easy is it to install.

What is your budget for the sub, box, power wire, rcas and amp? What are you looking to get from your sub? Kicker, rockford fosgate, and alpine come to mind for good subs and amps.
someone gotta be able to help me out i'm hoping to spend around $600 for my system. i'm new to this cause all the other years i just been working on my jeep for offroading.
infinity is pretty good. and you need an amp for whatever sub you decide on. look at the rms power of the sub and pick an amp that delivers 1/2 to 3/4 of that power. usually one sub is plenty.

Not a fan of anything form infinity except there amps. I would look into kicker and RF for subs and them as well for amps maybe even hifonics if you want to go that cheap.
For the install you are going to need
Amp
Sub
Sub Box
Power wire 8 gauge or 4 gauge kit I like kicker hyperlex but you can go to walmart and get the 80 dollar kit
RCA patch cables 12 ft would probably be fine
And a piece of 14 gauge wire for the wake up line from your head unit to your amp. This tells the am to turn on when your head unit does.
Also a piece of 12 or 10 gauge speaker wire
If you want tight accurate bass look at a sealed box with something like a rockford fosgate punch stage 2 very good bang for the buck. For an amp you can sort of choose one I like kicker for there amps as they just tent to be good sub amps lol.
If you want loud dragged out bass look for a ported box and a sub that can be put in a sealed box like the kicker L5 or L7
Also there are different ohms ratings to different subs look for one that is either a single 4 ohm voice coil or a DVC dual voice coil 4 ohm sub that way the DVC can be wired too 2 ohms. I can help you out a lot more if you need it just ask. Also make sure that the sub RMS is close to what the amps RMS is or you can actually have the amp have more power you jsut will have to turn the gain down.
To keep your stock HU (if this is what you ment by a line out converter my bad) you can tap your rear channels, I just did this because I didn't have the Sub wire to run from my HU to the back, so I can't control the volume from the HU but I still have amp controls.

Pulled out, the lines going down and the cluster tape wrap. It would be cleaner to show if I took the amp plate off.
All together for my subs, it was $100, running the wires wasn't bad, but there was a lot of extra wire in my uncle's garage, 2x MTX 10"s with a punch 45x2.
Sealed vs Ported, Ported hit boxes hit harder, I had 2x Infinity 12"s with a ported box in my ghetto oldsmobile, it rattled everything. I run with 2x 10"s in a solid sealed box, it's very clean and undistorted, but not that much power except for when I desire. At about 1/2 volume on the punch it's equal with the rest of the sound, and not overpowering at all.
I have to say though that good quality speakers can really improve your sound, and if I could of done things differently I would of upgraded my speakers before I put subs in. Definently since my father owns an 07 mustang with a Shaker 500, and the sound is definently better than mine without added bass from subs. I can bump more though :P
Every time someone comes in here asking about installing (a) sub(s) on the factory deck I tell them the same thing:
It's not worth it.
Why?
a) Factory radio puts out a VERY low RMS wattage. <10? gearbox knows.
If you want to change your speakers for new ones, they won't sound all that nice, and will be underpowered. Under-powering speakers is actually worse than over-powering them and they'll die prematurely.
b) Factory radio doesn't have a dedicated sub output channel or controls.
If you want to keep your sub alive, your amp is fully responsible for filtering out unwanted frequencies, and you'll then need high pass filters on your other speakers to prevent them from playing the lower frequencies that your sub is responsible for.
c) No remote wire on factory deck
You'll have to find an unused circuit in your fuse box that is only powered when the car is ON and wire your amp's remote into that,
OR you can put a switch in your dash to manually turn the sub on and off, just don't forget to turn it off when you get out of the car!
d) Factory deck sounds like crap compared to even a low-budget aftermarket deck. Factory has what.. 2-band EQ (treb/bass)? Even the least expensive decks come with at least 3 bands. Mine, for example, has 7 bands to adjust.
A new deck is a very important thing, especially if you ever want to expand your stereo. If you want to add hands-free calling, USB / iPod support, inputs for portable DVD players and laptop audio, etc, you'll need a new deck to do it.
Please, for your own sanity, start there. Pioneer makes some decent models, Alpine is widely popular these days, and I'm sure you'll find something that fits your budget. (Just stay away from Sony)
agreed. ive heard what a sub sounds like on stock deck. boomy mess. and usually you have no bass adjustment, unless you get an amp with remote bass boost control.

i will be getting a new head unit i just realized that a double 12 inch sub won't fit in my civic due to the 6 cd changer which is against the one back speaker. i'm going to be changing the 4 other speakers as well and i found out i do have a single 12inch kicker box with a sony explode 440 watt amp just found it lol. i'm just going to have to find a stand to hold my amp and speaker in place.

I would advise away from sony products but if that's what you already have than I guess that will do for the meantime. As far as mounting the amp you can just screw it into the back of your subwoofer box. To mount the box you can go to any hardware store and buy an L bracket and mount it to the floor in the trunk. If you haven't already bought a new head unit you should look for a head unit with a high preamp voltage. Higher preamp voltage will help send a better sound signal to the amp.

Ebay is your friend. Just make sure when you search to look for Power Sellers that have at least a 99% feedback. Also look for New Condition in the listing. Allot of Ebay dealers sell refurbished equipment but if you follow these guidelines you can get a nice setup for a small amount of change.
