Lightbulb What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

Hi

My Civic's stock sound is crap (only one speaker isn't blown) so I'm finally going to replace my speakers. I am not particularly able to be free enough with money to go get everything professionally done, so I was looking to find speakers on eBay. Problem is, I'm not sure what my speaker specs are. Does anyone know the proper dimensions to get both front and back speakers for a 2001 Honda Civic LX Coupe? Thanks!

for a coupe, front is 6.5 inch and rear is 6x9. you need to search around and see which rears would work tho because some are too big and will hit the trunk bars. i would go with some nice infinity reference speakers. and carmedia1.com has good deals on them.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

I just installed my system last night, U NEED shallow mount speakers for the door, 6 1/2 in the front, 6 1/2's in the back aswell, this is in my EX sedan coupe may range a bit. but component speakers are nice if you find a nice set of them.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

For up front, shallow speakers are (clearly) easier. Some people get away with using MDF spacers to increase the depth, but you might run into problems with the door panel if you go too big.

The 6x9's in the back give you, I believe, ~3.5" to work with. I just replaced mine with a better Pioneer model. Careful what you buy, you can't really use a spacer here unless you're willing to cut a hole in the rear deck and use the covers that came with your speakers.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

i have normal 6.5 in my doors, i just have a 1 inch plastic spacer (mdf is not waterproof) and i cut out the plastic lip behind the door panel that is not needed at all. tons of room for the window to roll down and the panel to fit back on.

idk, lol if its just the ex, but a regular 6 1/2 kenwood wouldn't fit, so i got shallow mounts those didn't fit well in the hole, so it took 3 plastic spacers, lol idk lol

maybe it depends on the speakers. i have regular size infinity reference in my ex sedan doors with the 1 inch spacers.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

Thank you everyone! I was thinking I might go with infinity; I've heard good things about them. But I'm still a little confused about wattage. Does anyone know how many wats I should look for in speakers? Like, is 120 a good RMS wattage?

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

rms watts is what to look at. it all depends how loud you wanna go. im perfectly happy with my 60w speakers on a 30w amp. the stock paper speakers are 5w for reference. but at least give the speakers 1/2 of their rms watts when choosing an amp. 3/4 is preferable. do not get aftermarket speakers if you plan to keep the oem honda cd player. it barely puts out 8w per channel so the new speakers will sound like trash being underpowered and you will ruin them. you need an amp, and also a better cd player that supports preamp outputs to connect to the amp.

If I want to keep the original honda stereo, then what kind of rms wattage should I be looking for for my speakers?

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

prolly best to stick with stock speakers then, they will sound better. or if you find any aftermarket ones that are 10-20w rms MAX. maybe some better paper speakers or something. any higher and you will not like the results. there will be very little bass and poor sound.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

And, sorry to display my ignorance so obviously, but I can't seem to find the proper dimensions for my car stereo. Would 9.6 x 18 x 2.4 inches ; 4.1 pounds work, or does anyone know of a website that tells you what dimensions to look for when you purchase a car stereo for the dash of your car? I've tried looking it up, but maybe I'm phrasing it incorrectly or something.

Re: What are speakers specs for 2001 Civic LX Coupe?

hmm never really thought of it. usually they are all standard DIN size. ofcourse you need an aftermarket adapter trim piece to fit the new radio. the stock radio is kinda molded to fit the outer trim piece so you need a new piece. like this.
