Help: 54 plate Civic Sport - want to make compatible with iPod

Hi Guys,
First post here...Bought my first Civic a few months ago, it is a 54 plate Civic Sport and I am loving it! Only problem so far is, I have had to buy one of these dodgy quality iPod Tunebase players off the internet. Some songs are pretty poor quality using it - quite high distortion on some for no reason at all.

I have had a look on Halfords website regards to buying a new stereo MP3 compatible. But I was wondering if there was any way to hook up the basic stereo that comes along with the car up with an Aux in cable, as I would prefer to have the cable that comes out the back anyway.

Although I have fitted a stereo to a previous car, I am not too tech saavy but willing to have a go at it if anyone could provide me with some advice as to how to go about it / if it is possible.

Also, I am looking to improve the sound quality in the car (better than standard speakers) but don't want any of these things sitting in my back window / boot. Any ideas? Sorry if these questions seem simple...amateur alert.

Cheers in advance....

Re: Help: 54 plate Civic Sport - want to make compatible with iPod

There's a guy here who has done this with his stock radio, and for whatever reason the deck had to be on CD to read his iPod, and every few minutes it would attempt to change the disc and there would be a break in the audio.
As much as this may be a possible option, I really wouldn't recommend it.

There are plenty of decks out there that look great (Double-DIN fits in our cars with no extra drilling or cutting, you just buy the metra dash trim piece for $20) and will give you proper iPod support. Mine has a USB input that supports iPods. I run the cable out the back into my glovebox and keep the iPod in there. The deck controls everything.

If you prefer to control the iPod on the device itself, you could also run an AUX cable from pretty well any aftermarket deck and do it that way.

Besides, a new deck will improve the sound quality in your car 10 fold, even with stock speakers. You can't go wrong.
