Maintenance Required light on dash

Hi all,

I have a 2001 civic LX, with about 85K miles. I bought it used, so I do not have any manuals or history on the car.
Yesterday, I started getting the "Maintenance Required" light on the dash. It will flash for about 10 times and turn off by itself.

If anyone can help me answer these 2 questions, I would appricate it.

1. How do I turn off the Maintenance Required light?

2. Does this Maintenance Required light mean anything is wrong with my car? Or is it just a courtesy reminder to have my car taken in and looked at?

Thanks

Re: Maintenance Required light on dash

its just a mileage timer that comes on every 10k miles or so to bring your car to the dealer for annual raping. $50 oil changes, $150 spark plug change, etc. to turn it off just hold down the mileage trip meter button on the gauge cluster, turn car to ON position (do not start motor), and wait 20 seconds. the light will be reset next time you turn the car on.
