Relay ticking on fog lights

I just got a set of Ebay fog lights, and before i hook them up in the car, i wanted to test them out since many people have problems with the wiring harness. The way i tested them is that first put the whole wiring harness together the way it would be if it were in the car. I then took a battery booster and hooked all the ground wired to the neg clamp and clamped the power wire to the pos clamp. I am getting a ticking/wurring sound from the relay, and the lights aren't coming on. When i turn the power switch off the ticking/wurring sound stops. Any idea what is going wrong?

Any and all help would greatly be appreciated.

*Note - The car is a 2004 civic ex, 2 door, 5spd.

Re: Relay ticking on fog lights

either u are providing too much power to the relay(only needs 12v to run) or not gettin enough power. imagine starting a car. the ignition system uses a relay and if u never had the car ran in a month the battery would b dead. when u try to start the car u just get a rapid clicking noise which is your relay goin crazy.

Re: Relay ticking on fog lights

So i installed the fogs last night and everything works fine and as they should, but the switch is illuminated constantly even when the key is not turned to ACC. Will this draw enough current when the car is parked for the night to kill my battery?

it might, it has a bulb inside. you could just take the bulb out, that would be the easiest solution. otherwise the wiring might be a bit off. i know most people cant get those ebay switch to work and end up using their own

when you say that people cant get the switches to work, do they run in to the same problem as me where the indicator light stays on all the time, or the switch just wont turn on the lights?

Re: Relay ticking on fog lights

Hmmm, I did the ebays just recently and I'm getting none of the problems. I think I might get the ticking sound but it only comes on when I turn the lights on and is in sync with me turning the light switch.

Other than that the lights run great and seem to be getting full power as there is no dimming.
