Type-S have a stamped basket and at higher notes you will hear it, the spyder mechanism isnt as good either. Theres more to it then im even saying here but i owned the Type-R's long ago.....Sweet sub but if you can look at the Pioneer Premier subs, youll change your mind!

Re: Alpine Type-R or.....

yeah, freaking expensive as hell. I am still deciding between the S-600 and S-609 or the R's, the peak power is a little better in the R's.... hmmm

eBay can have some great deals if you're careful. I've gotten some things off of there I'm very satisfied with.

Re: Alpine Type-R or.....

yeah i don't mind ebay sometimes, and sometimes its great if your a seller and people don't read the fine print

lol

btw I bought the type S because i went to my local car audio store and tested out the R's and S's at peak, and although the R's were better and crisper, the S can hold its own, and yes I agree Alpine's RIP

Re: Alpine Type-R or.....

look i know that there are lots of guys that are hardcore alpine but lemme tell ya for the same or maybe a little more money than alpine you can get JL. For the price of a type X you could get a w7 or w6 and it will be the cleanest sounding sub you've ever heard. I guarantee it. Even the new pioneer permiers dont have anything on jl. Or for less money you could get 12w3v3s which use similar technology as w6 and w7. either way JL won't disappoint you.

Re: Alpine Type-R or.....

^Agreed!!

i once owned Alpine Type-R's (12") and let me tell you...
The Pioneer Premier 1000W subs i own right now anhilate the R's!
may not look all pretty, but it smoked em' hands down.

With the computer spec vented box on them are insane!
moves my A-pillars, roof, trunk, etc up to 3/4"-1", im surprised i havent snapped a window with them.
