12v Key Off Aux Power

Honda Civic Hybrid 2008

While there are two Aux (cigarette lighter) 12v jacks in the center console, but both power down when the key is off and it's critical to have always on 12v to keep cellphone and mp3 player charged.

I know I am asking for the unlikely, but, is there a simple way to switch the power to either or both of these to always on?

If not, are there any "gotchas" in removing the center console? (two bolts in the storage compartment and I assume the front ones will become evident as a proceed?)

Related, can the front panel where the front 12v jack is be removed without removing the center console?

A search here found console removal info on other models but not similar to this one... also nothing on getting always on 12v in the center console area... any and all input appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Beverly Howard

Re: 12v Key Off Aux Power

found this which seems to answer the console question;

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/audio...t-install.html

Here's hoping that the connector shown has "key off 12v"

Re: 12v Key Off Aux Power

>> We haven't seen you around lately. Last we heard from you is what you wrote in this thread <<

I did come up with a solution (which involved running a fuse protected line from the battery to the console) and posted steps and pictures on another Honda forum.

If anyone one is interested (I note zero responses to the op) I will be glad to repost them here.

Re: 12v Key Off Aux Power

Unbelievable, well into the 21th century and we don't have accessory, always-on jacks? I believe Americans have had them for years. I dunno what's the deal with Japanese, they have tons of cellphones...

Re: 12v Key Off Aux Power

haha its cause they think we are stupid and will forget stuff is plugged in, then complain later when the battery drains and car wont start. which in many cases i bet is true. i think actually older civics had always-on sockets and ppl complained so they switched it to acc powered. anyway its just a simple single wire you can run from the + battery (use a fuse ofcourse) to the socket.
