Is a power window conversion possible?

I know I've asked this before, but now I'm wondering if it's actually plug and play. It was my understanding I could get the wiring and just plug it in wherever it goes. So my question is this.....does my Civic DX with manual windows have the necessary harness or wiring to swap in the power window regulators and motors from a EX or Si? Someone told me they use all the same harnesses to save on money and just leave the unused wires there, other people told me it's completely different and I'd have to go right back to basics and start from the ground up.Does anyone know for sure? I know all about the aftermarket kits, I want to do it with all stock parts.

not sure, but remember, you'll need new door panels, switches, etc. it doesn't seem this would be worth the headache. i like the manual windows on my dx, and they're one of the reasons i bought it. i had so many issues with the power windows on my last car, i didn't want to have to deal with it on this one. also, there are a lot of threads on here about people having issues with their stock windows.

The manual windows are good for when I'm working on the stereo and I have the battery cables removed, but I have having to lean over and put down the passenger window every time I get in the car in the summer. I prefer having the windows down instead of using the air conditioning. I wouldn't get new door panels since the crank is in the fabric portion of the door so I would just get a plug for the hole and then recover the fabric with a synthetic suede or something real nice, it'd be super cheap. And as for the buttons, it's a removable piece You can get on Ebay for $50. so that's easy too. I just need the crap from inside the door like the motors and regulators. I have a guy willing to part out a Si (the other post you're helping me with) and will sell me the doors from that but I don't want to have to get those painted, and don't want to buy the whole door if I'm only going to tear out the pieces.

Oh, must be different up there in canada. My DX here doesn't have any places to knock out plugs, etc. Hope someone can help you out with the wiring aspect, 'cause i don't know about that. I would suspect they use the same harness, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

No, it's not different. If you look at your crank, it's not on the plastic part of the door, it's coming out of the fabric part. So when you remove the crank, you have a hole in your fabric right through to the inside of the door. If you put a plastic plug in there, you only have a hole in the fabric. Remove the fabric and recover with new stuff, viola. You're done.

You should be able to pop out the piece currently in your car and pop this one in.

Ya that's from the wrong year, sorry. But you get the idea, it just pops in in place of the piece that's there now.

Re: Is a power window conversion possible?

sedans are a different story, i think the only way to convert to power windows is to get a whole new door panel, swithces, and stuff. Other than that, you need to get a cover for the hole

Re: Is a power window conversion possible?

when i installed my door speakers, i remember unhooking the passenger side door harness. its just a little plug with like 2 wires that goes into the door and through the grommett. see if you have that. if not, maybe i can try to trace the wires to see where they come from, and then you can see if you have the source/root wires to start with. for cost reasons, i think the power windows/locks would just be an added harness, not a different design.

I'd like to hear what you find. I've got power wires going to my door for the locks, just not sure if the windows are included in there somewhere.
