I Want to learn

ok guys so i have spent some time on learning about stereo systems and learning how they work. i think i have it down pretty good now. what i dont understand though is ohms, and how different ohms work for stereos. and i also dont understand how wiring the subs in parrelell and series works, or what it does. can someone explain this to me, or give me a link to one that does. thanks. p.s. i did search but couldnt find anything To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Ohms play a huge role in impedance (resistance). By lowering the resistance on the line by cutting ohms in half (4 ohm to 2 ohm for example) you also cut resistance in half. By reducing resistance by half, you can now effectively double your power output. Make sense so far? Wiring configurations are available to achieve various ohms to match up to what your amp puts out the most power at. For example, if you wanted to run 3 dual voice coil subs at 4ohm (assuming they are already 4ohm to begin with) running in series will increase impedance, while parallel will drop it back down to acheive 4 ohm across the board with all 3 subs. Likely, at this point you will have two wires to plug into your amp which will require "bridging" to acheive a 4ohm mono (both channels into one signal) which has the highest power output. Amps can be rated differently though. My JL amps put out the same power regardless of impedance, while old school Orion put out extreme power at rediculously low impedance (1 ohm and lower).

look into learning ohms law will help with a better under standing of it as well

ok, so from what i read here i want to get subs with the lowest ohms, maybe 2 ohms? and get an amp that puts the most power out at 2 ohms during bridging. right? and yes i will be getting dual voice coil subs. im thinking the kicker comp vrs with a mtx 1000 watt amp.
