Ok here's the setup and then I'll follow with the issue:
Equipment
2003 Honda Civic EX
Battery: Optima Redtop
0 guage from the battery to a dis. block then 4 guage to amps (300/2 and a 500/1)
HU: Alpine IVA-D901
Processor: PPI DCX-730
Amp: JL 300/2
Issue
After listening to music for awhile, I've noticed that one channel of the amp seems to cut in and out when bass hits. I can identify this as some sort of poor connection as it has gone in and out over bumps in the road. For a process of elimination, I've switched the RCA's coming from the processor to determine if the short would switch sides. It did not. Then I switched speaker channels by moving the right to the left and vis versa and the short DID move. So at that point I considered that the terminals were coming loose. I can attest to the fact that previous owner of my 300/2 did nearly strip the allen heads for that terminal, but when I give the wires a tug they seem fine and hold well. In addition, when the sound cuts in and out the volume goes up MUCH higher. I have the volume for the sound attenuated from the processor to reduce background noise and it's as if the processor isn't suppressing one channel. So what is it, the processor or the amp? Could it be the amp terminal or does it sound like an internal short? I have just redone all wiring into the car, and everything is clean and neat. I've never had a ground issue, and even if that could be a factor, how could it effect one channel? I called JL once and they tried telling me it was due to a low output alternator. I've had this setup for years and this issue just recently came about, so I'm reluctant to believe that. Suggestions?
As a side note, I'm going to go straight from the HU to the amp tonight to try to remove the Processor from the equation and see if the issue still exists..
