what is the best tire size for a 17 x 7.5 wheel would it be a 215 or 225 width? dont really care on the height just trying to find something that isnt wider then the rim.

depends a lot on brand. Many guys run 205/40/17s. I do and ive had 2 sets. my first set was wanli s1088 NEVER EVER EVER buy them. they suck! My second set is ultra hpr which i think are the same as general uhp and they are great. i wouldnt go bigger than 215 on a civic tho

For a 97' Civic, the best tire, or which is closest to stock overall diameter is a 205/40/17.
The tire size 215/45/17 is too big, I don't know if it'll rub, but there is a risk of brake failure and your speedometer will be off. anyways, hope this helps.
