Oil in coolant overflow

Hey, i've been boosted for 5000k stock d17a2 motor at 6psi with an ~11.5 a/f wot tune and as im tearing my car down this year i've noticed a bit of oil residue in the overflow coolant tank

I drained the coolant and it did not look milky or as if oil was mixed in there but there is (what looks to be) oil residue on the sides of the top of the tank

Whats everyone's thoughts on this? Head Gasket is what first came to mind for me but it is not smoking at all aside from a bit of black smoke when my fuel curve changes for the boost and like i said the coolant looked normal draining out of the rad?

Any input fellas?

Re: Oil in coolant overflow

i think it can be only the headgasket. how else will the oil get in the coolant. do you throttle boost a lot?

woops. i meant partial throttle boost. water jacket? the part where the radiator hoses hook up to? that could be a possibility too. very unlikely though, never seen any of those things go bad.

Re: Oil in coolant overflow

Well i have had something go wrong to this sunday.I drove like 80 mile i stop
behind a friend and see the water temp climbing all the way up i shut down
car right away.water got out of the water reservoir next to the radiator.
ride home water temp stay normal till i have to slow down or stop at a red
light.Had heater on hot so temp stayed ok.

after checking some stuff firt so little bubbles in the radiator but after
checking again nothing anymore.

Have driven around today, alot of stop at red light everything normal
no white smoke,no coolant in the oil, temp stay normal all the time.
gonna check if their are exhaust gasses in the radiator if that ok .....
weirdest thing ever.

Re: Oil in coolant overflow

It sounds like it COULD be a blown headgasket. There is only one way to know for certain and that's by doing a leakdown test. You can check compression first if you want, your reading may be a little high on one cylinder if its got a leak.

Re: Oil in coolant overflow

My best guess, cracked block or head gasket. If you want to check head gasket, do a compression test. If its a blown head gasket, you'll get two low psi readings of cylinders right next to one another. If all psi's check out okay, or maybe low on a single cylinder, start to suspect cracks.

Good luck man

^Where do you get that from? A seal doesn't always blow between two cylinders.

Re: Oil in coolant overflow

my problem is fixed now head gasket had 2 smal spot blown between the
combustion room and water canal. It would slowely build up to much compression
in the cooling system.

that was the problem. so i would say to head gasket
