dx/lx to ex exhaust question

ok so i am a newb, but i HAVE done my searching and only have found one vague answer on this question and so am posting for better answers. does anyone know if I have to switch to the ex sway bar when switching to an ex exhaust? and can i just splice and lengthen the 02 sensor wires rather than getting the extension cables? thanks for all ur help in advance.

btw: if anyone has an ex downpipe or header for sale pm me please!

Re: dx/lx to ex exhaust question

and that's why emissions testing sucks... i'm hoping that when i do swap exhaust that i can just lengthen them with the same gauge wires so hopefully the resistance will stay the same...

Re: dx/lx to ex exhaust question

If you dont get the extension cables and just splice the wires you'll get a CEL, specifically.. P0133 (slow O2 response time). When I did this I got the code several times but once I clear it, it doesnt come back for weeks or even months.

As for the FRONT sway bar, your LX one will hit the cat on the EX because its in the same place. The EX has a special bend in it to give more clearance for the cat. This is true in my 01 with the thicker sway. Maybe later models with the thinner sway will still clear. But with my 01 there is NO getting around the cat with the stock LX bar and EX cat.

how did you do your exhaust swap? im setting up to get a greddy evo2 used catback with a stock ex header and then i have it set up to take that to a friend of mines' muffler shop and we're gonna put on the header and greddy and then make a cat pipe... i looked at my sway bar today and it does have a bend in it to make room for the exhaust pipe is the ex's bend just bigger? and i was thinking 2" tubing for the cat pipe? what size should i use? where's the best place to get fairly priced 02 wire extenders that will work and not make the light come on... thanks for all ur help.

Re: dx/lx to ex exhaust question

ok sooo i have had my new exhaust installed for a while and its been leaking recently. me and a buddy of mine are going to look at it while its running soon to try to point where its leaking from. but i have a few concerns/ideas abut where it could be coming form so i would like some input if possible. here it goes.

first off i replaced my dx exhaust with a dc sports cat back, a high flow cat pipe, and a stock ex exhaust manifold (because i havent found a deal on an aftermarket one yet). when we connected the high flow cat pipe to the manifold we had to use a couple washers to hold the springs onto the longer bolts we got from a hardware store.

possible cause a: springs/washers are banging against each other while the engine is under throttle and causing a sound like a leak (hard to tell the exact sound from inside car under throttle with exhaust)

possible cause b: Stock ex manifold has cracked maybe? i pulled off the shield and felt around while it was idling and couldn't really tell if it was leaking but then again i couldnt with the old dx one either...

possible cause c: for new gaskets for the cat back only (so the gaskets between b pipe and resonator, and between resonator and muffler) i went to advance and got gaskets for the same diameter pipe and bolt pattern. they covered the pipes on the flange but didnt necessarily go over the whole flange but covered everything except for a small portion of the flange on the very edges. kinda hard to describe... i dont think its this since i dont think it would be this pronounced since these gaskets are so far back, and i hear this sound over the sounds of the exhaust.

and finally. the two bolts that hold the top of the manifold and heat shield to the cylinder head, are they that important? because i dont know why, but they have both stripped, and i mean with barely any torque on them. i barely got them flush with the heat shield and they instantly just kept spinning. i can get them out and in, but the threads are just full of metal from the head... so again, are these THAT important???

i really appreciate any and all help! i did this whole conversion to get rid of my old exhaust leak and need to get this new stuff to stop leaking as well...

also if anyone has a pic of their cracked ex exhaust manifold, it would be greatly appreciated to look in the common areas to see if mine is cracked. or if you could just describe where yours was leaking from. that would work as well.

thanks again!!!
