Magnaflow Cat-Back Installation

Hey guys, I haven't posted much here, but I always enjoy browsing the forums.

My question is, I have bought a Magnaflow cat-back for my '04 civic lx (I think it's an LX...) and I'm wondering how difficult it is to install? I have little to no experience with exhaust work, but it doesn't look overly difficult to me.

Would anyone here recommend me do it myself? I know I can get a pit to work in, and I have all day tomorrow to work on it if I want. It looks like the only tools I'd require are a few wrenches, and some wd40.

I saw this post DIY: Installation of Magnaflow Exhaust and it looks useful as well.

Any comments, suggestions, or hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't use the clamps they provide you with. Go have it professionally welded.

Re: Magnaflow Cat-Back Installation

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll probably give it a shot today.

I don't think I should need any jack stands where I'm using a pit to get under the car. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

Oh, and here's my car:

Re: Magnaflow Cat-Back Installation

Got it installed today! I broke one bolt, but replaced it with a new one (roads are salted a lot here, so they were rusty).

What do you guys think?

The only issue right now is that the tip is rubbing against the car..I'm not too too concerned, but what's the easiest way to fix this? A friend recommended bending the hangers on the muffler.

Lookin' good. I don't know where in Canada you are situated...I'm in Montreal and I only hope that you don't get pulled over like I did. That Magnaflow got me three tickets of $154 each. Not because it was loud, but because the cops saw the muffler...and in Canada mufflers cannot be a straight-through design for the street. I wish you luck.

Really?? I've never heard of that before. I'm from Nova Scotia, but I haven't seen anyone get in trouble for that before. There are a lot of cavaliers, sunfires, and neons around here with annoyingly loud exhausts, so I'd imagine they'd pull them over first, haha.

I'm surprised, the magnaflow isn't loud at all. It idles no louder then the stock exhaust.

Re: Magnaflow Cat-Back Installation

So I fixed the rubbing and rattling by just adjusting one of the clamps. All is good now.

I bought it for $20 less then retail, so $540+tax or something like that (locally), plus $3 for replacement bolts, and $10 for some penetrating oil.

Overall, the mod was a much cheaper mod then I would have expected it be.
