*PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Hello!!! i just got a ...well like the title says and i just found your site! i got it with a blown engine in it, and i will be putting another D17a2 into it this summer.
ITs that crazy color (inca Pearl) with a matched painted body kit, short throw and a bunch of engine, suspension, and drive train goodies. lightweight pulleys, ect...
i'm a HUGE Subaru guy ( i own 4) and i race in 2 different rallyX championships and rally's... this is my first "performance" honda so be gentle
I'll get some pics and also keep everyone posted on my build! should start next month!
thanks for having me!
Luigi

Reason: added pics, and i had to let the peeps know
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
ok!!!! The engine is ready to come out!!!! its dis-assembled and all bolts holding it together are finger tight...
i'm planning to pull it out july 4th weekend, and get started on dissasembling it to see what the hell happened with the last owner.... funny side note though.. the previous owner said they drove over a puddle and it stopped... after taking the intake off, i looked into the intake baffle below the throttle body and it was a LAKE of water.... i pulled out OVER A QUART of water before i stopped measuring the amount... thats A LOT OF WATER!!!! crazy!! my concern is water possibly being stuck against one of the injectors and ruining it... so i might have to get a set of stock D17A2 injectors from someone on here...
also if anyone knows if any of the sensors in the baffle below the throttle body could have been destroyed by the standing water, it'd be good to know so i can source them....
this car (when its running again) is going to be AWESOME! another to the fleet!!! i'll take some pics of the engine bay, and also the DC sports headers i took off (going onto the new engine) and some of the lightweight underdrive pulleys... lots of goodies!!!!!
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Sounds like a plan.
Been there done that myself, only with my truck and salt water.
Were you keeping the D17 for the simplicity, price, and MPG's? It's a great time to go K-20 or something if you want to put a little more money and effort into the swap.
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
hey! thanks for responding!! since i only have about a 2 month window.. (only including weekends) i think a direct swap is my only option.... as for my subaru's (my wagon especially) .. its got a closed deck STi engine from 1992, and everything has been altered....
....this thing will still be fun... and then i'll sell it
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Theres a place close by my house called Attarco... for $495, i get a D17a2 with ALL the accessories (minus AC, Power steering) and they oil pressure test, leak down test, and give it 6 months for a warrenty!! AND!! they deliver it to my doorstep.
sweet! recieveing july8th, old engine will be pulled and diagnosed july 4th weekend. pics to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Yeah, I think everyone on here would vouch for the K20 if going to the trouble of swapping, and given your racing background ofcourse.
LOL, most people start with a Civic and only dream of having a Subaru one day.
Welcome to the Forums.
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, its a sickness..... i know this is the wrong place for it ... but if you're curious.. this is what i've got:
1987 GL10 Sedan 3.700 LSD Rally Car
1988 XT6 FT4WD 3.900 Center Diff Lock
1992 EJ22T Touring Wagon 5MT Swap 4.111
all are FAST FAST FAST! hehe, ok ok PICS i know (of the civic) .. i think alot of you guys (and girls) would cry to see the dust and pieces this thing is in... but no worries!!! when i'm done... it'll be SHOW!
Question (since i'm here) ... i'm going to paint the engine/transmission while they're out of the car.... right now, my plan is to paint the entire engine inca pearl, then stripe off construction style with tape, and paint it black... so the engine will turn out BLACK with GOLD stripes.... and yeah, i'm willing to kick back a few cold ones while i take an afternoon to do it right (the masking that is.. painting will take over a week i think)
What does everyone think?? (and i'll get on pics i PROMISE, just got a new puppy, and she's taking up the memory cards.) thanks again!!!!!

Well it is a bit extreme to even paint anything that you don't directly see when the hood is open. On top of that you get so much dust and grime in there, it's tough to keep clean. So assuming the paint holds really well, then such striping details wouldn't be noticed. I really like the idea of painting it all inca pearl, if you are gonna go with anything, I say go with just that. If any chipping/peeling/flaking happens then you won't notice it as much as you would with black.
Re: Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
The time has come... PICS!!!! as you can see its midnight... and i need to be at work at 6.
.... you're welcome
whats great about it, is that you guys (and girls) can tell me some of the crap i have on this thing!
Lets start with a full body shot:
Next a front shot (The front body color'd kit bumper is currently inside the car.... with the stock rear and front bumpers
Right now when you open the hood...
another shot
And heres where the headers are supposed to be.. the passenger seat! DUR!
I filled up two of these guys with what was SITTING in the intake plenum, and then just started dumping the rest of the water onto the ground... it sucked up A LOT
Heres a shot of the interior:
And of course you've tried to fit 3 bumpers in YOUR back seat...
Another shot of "Natural Placement"... throttle body and Alternator.. sitting on the passenger floor... notice the underdrive pulley faaaancy,, theres one on the power steering compressor...
and last but not least, the dual canister DC sports exhaust..
I hope youve enjoyed this photo tour... whatcha think??!!!
Don't be shy, i'm curious where this sits among the honda crowd... since i'm not really in it LAY IT ON ME!!
Re: *PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
There's actually a lot there that I like, I was expecting a total nightmare, but it's a good starting point. You got the moon roof, painted mirrors and handles. Back windows are tinted, but good luck matching the side windows :P
The Octane rear bumper (or sometimes called R34) looks really good in that color, I normally don't care much for it. The pedals are a good touch, but the rims look like they belong on a Neon.
I wonder if that header would fit on the D17, it'd be a nice bonus.
I'm sure in time you'll resurrect this thing and make it roadworthy.
Re: *PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
actually, im not sure if i really mentioned it, but EVERYTHING thats now off of the car, i took off....
the car was running with everything you see... headers, ect... what happened was the guy had a first generation Injen intake, the one that goes into the bumper.... (i contacted injen to see if this was a common problem, and they never responded back to me...) he ran over a puddle, and it sucked up water.. yeah a puddle... BLEW the engine... had geico put in ANOTHER ENGINE AT THE HONDA DEALER... he re-installed his injen intake.. and blew the SECOND motor...
so the motor you see sitting there, is a honda factory motor FROM the dealer, with less then 8000 miles on it... also blown...
did i mention that all the spare pieces will be FOR SALE? the VTEC head (with 8k miles) not to mention all the spare knick nacks i'll have left...
i'll get a model number on the exhaust.. ive never seen anything like it...
haha, yeah the rims are ...odd... and the pedals will be coming off... (i'd like to get some decent ones if i were to do it right... its called an R34 eh? interesting...
Tomorrow it BEGINS!!!! and i'll have PLENTY of pics to show
thanks for the reply Keet!

Re: *PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Just got the clutch and all the parts in... the new engine will be re-assembled this weekend! hopefully if all goes well, it'll be in the car by sunday....
This weekend was finally the defining moment. We buttoned up the final connections, installed the AC back onto its bracket, alternator, and power steering. Hooked up the shifter linkage, Plugged in the wiring harness, re-attached the cruise control, throttle cables, spark plugs, coils, intake, header and battery...
....put some gas in it, and turned the key...
.........didnt start right away, but THEN came to life! Ran GREAT!! smooth idle, and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!!!! amazing!!!
so we decide to go up and down the street.... we realize... no speedometer.... BING goes the check engine light. CRAP. We pop the hood, look at the speed sensor, and one of the pins had pulled out. we pushed it back in, go for anothe ride, and the speedo is BACK!
We still have an SRS light, and a Maint. Reqd. Light, but im sure those just need to be reset. The car runs GREAT and is going to be getting a FULL detail job come this week.... Updated pics to come!!!
Re: *PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
Wow, very well done. That's something I would never do and probably not be able to do anyways. But totally worth it for you since you know what you're doing. I guess it doesn't even matter if it's a Subaru or a Honda you're working on, the basic principles are the same. Glad to hear she's running fine and everything under the hood is so clean (...for now heh).
Re: *PICS ADDED* Hello! just got a 2001 Inca Pearl Civic Coupe EX
hehe thank you!! yeah at this point, its all engineness... ALL the lights are out now (SRS, Maint Reqd., Check engine) and the car runs great. now it needs a solid vacuuming and detailing. i registered it yesterday at the DMV, and after i run it for abotu 500 miles, i'll go get it smogged. should pass no problem. Someone's going to LOVE this car
