whats needed to build a custom turbo kit

i heard you can use the turbo off a dsm and use parts of other turbo cars. what parts can be used for a d17a2? i did a google search on building a turbo kit but all i can find is for older generation civics. Im new to the turbo scene and know this a noob question but im trying to save as much money as possible on a turbo then spending 3k$ cause i heard that building your own turbo is way cheaper. Cheaper is not always better.

Now before you start building a turbo kit you should learn a little about the search button.

This magic button is located at the top of the forum. With nothing more than a simple left-click and some key words you will get all the answers to such questions.

Try it and be amazed.

Re: whats needed to build a custom turbo kit

You can do this cheaply (relatively speaking) if you're handy with a welder, don't mind used parts, know what you're looking for, know what you're looking at when you find it (condition of the part), are patient to take the time to find the deals, and don't mind a low boost setup. Either way, it's still gonna cost you about $2000 to get everything together and actually running.

Re: whats needed to build a custom turbo kit

ur better off buying a complete kit thats being sold on this forum right now .. u won't be able to put together a custom kit and save / be reliable if u aren't an expert and know how to make things work and running fine .. kits like the TSI even have big time problems fitting and such.... do it right the first time and save ur self a headache so listen to wat foos ssaid, do it slow but do it right .. and DON"T CHEAP OUT . . crap turbo setup = never ending problems

Re: whats needed to build a custom turbo kit

If I can get away with spending the cash then I would go with the dezod kit. I already ran it by my girl by lieing and saying that I took out a personal loan for it and it didn't go well.....so I wait :-P
