extending the stock shift knob?

For some reason I've always had a problem with my arm hitting the armrest before my hand reaches the knob.

I've got an 04 mt w/ the center console.

I was messing around and found that it was perfect with my shift knob only screwed on two or three revolutions from the top rather than screwed all the way on.

Is there any nut/washer combo's or anything that would allow me to only screw the knob on a small amount and have it fit tightly?

man, the shifter already feels long as stock, and u want to extend it????!!! i dont know of any way to do this, but good luck

it's never really been comfortable. I feel like im reaching down for the shifter and I hate it. For those with the center console I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about.
