Rep Power: 0 Do I have a thrown rod/spun bearing?
Driving my car to work this morning and I heard a loud knocking. Start merging to get out of fast lane, speed up to get over and boom. Knocking gets quiet
and I see some smoke. A little bit of oil on my fan by the radiator as well.
Am pretty sure I threw a rod but would like you guys opinion as youve helped before.
And its on the side of the interstate right now maybe 20 to 25 miles from home. Can I drive it home? Is it worth trying to rebuild or should I drive it home and look for a new engine?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Ran it too low on oil (or anything that would cause lubrication pressure loss), bearing wiped out,
Sudden change in sound along with a big cloud of smoke and oil all over the place.... says the engine hatched.

Wait a sec.
Have you found the issue?
If it is just a rod you can replace it.
If a rod went through the block, that's something else, lol.

I haven't. I have to get it towed back to the house. How do i see if the block is cracked or the engine can be saved? Pull the engine?

IF it has blown oil everywhere just look for where it came from.
Hole in the block should be somewhat easy to find, if that's what happened.
