VIN Numbers: You should know where your civic was quality built!
Everyone should know this if you don't then here it is:
1st number of you VIN if it is a 1-US, 2-Canadian, 4-US, J-japan.
So if your VIN starts with "J" that means your civic was built in Japan!
starts with a 1 or a 4 than it was built in the US
starts with a 2 built in Canada
If it was made in America it will say "Honda of America" under the hood. I know that much. Haven't the pleasure of seeing a JDM Civic up close. Still cool thing to know though.

just because it is built in japan doesnt mean its jdm. those built in japan for US market are merely japanese built for the US market specifications.... Only the ones sold into the japanese market, are Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) spec.
Thats good to know, I bought my 95 Civic in Germany. I was stationed there in the mid 90s. The VIN starts with a(2). It was modified for European Autobahn Specs. I had to have them Americanized when I returned to the states. It was great driving the Autobahn in Germany with it. Having a 1.5L engine,5-speed manual and averaging about 40mpg. The Civic kept up with the best of German cars...for less than half the price of a European car, and gas averaging about $5.00 per gallon I didn't have to stop for fuel very often either. Civic is now 12 years old and still runs great...
okay nvm on the engine question i found out i have an EW4 which means my engine is a piece of crap only producing a little under 100 hp when it's running full power... and in prime shape... which it is... hahaha

OVNI_CIVIC you are correct; Although don't confuse a japanese built civic with an american or canadian built one. The Japenese built are managed by TQM. Which means not that they only meet american standards, they surpass the standards; with minimum tolerences.
