1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

Recently the temperature guage has been saying that my engine is overheating when Ive only driven a few blocks. Then the guage will drop to normal (about halfway). Its kind of erratic.
I just replaced the radiator so it shouldn't be a broken radiator.

I also noticed that there is smoke coming from the area of the manifold when the engine is running.

I also go through engine oil really quickly.

Could these things be related?
Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks!

I have another post regarding the car not accelerating. Perhaps this problem is related to my other problems.

When you changed your rad did you properly bleed the air out of the system?

Re: engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

Yah, I think there must have been air in the radiator. No, I didn't bleed the air out and this morning I managed to pour about a 1/4 of a jug of coolant into it even though I "filled" it up when I put in the new one.
After adding the coolant it isn't overheating.

Thanks for your help.

Re: engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

There is a procedure on this website for how to properly bleed the air out of your cooling system. It involves the heat being on full blast and such. I highly suggest you follow it, so you don't have any more problems. It's easy to find if you search for it, and its a bit more involved, most people don't do it right until they read up on it.
