1st - 5th Gen Honda CivicAs these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

So, as the title states. '90 EX with the 1.6L Automatic. Just go the car for my kids to use for work and school etc. Ran great for a few weeks, now it's doing strange things. REALLY hard to start cold and can barely keep it running until it warms up. Buddy of mine said EGR valve...WHERE the @#$& is it? Found pictures of what it's supposed to look like online at NAPA and Auto Zone etc.....can't find it on the car. Also, I'm getting the sneaky suspicion that this isn't the stock motor for this car. Too many grease pencil marks on it like from the wrecking yard. Can anyone tell me where I can look on the engine block or head or wherever to get the engine code and verify this is the right setup for this car?
Any suggestions on the hard start and poor idle problems?
Thanks for any help.

you should try cleaning out the intake system parts like throttle body and idle air and thermo valves. i doubt it has an egr valve, most older cars didnt. and that would not cause idle issues.

True to what gearbox said. but you need to figuar out witch motor is in it. Dual point w/ only 2 injectors or multipoint with 4 injectors. To find the code look at exhaust manifold to the left of it where the block bolts to the tran will be a flat spot. If its a ex it should say d16a6. thats the stock code.
Does it only act up when cold? or even after it gets up to temp?
I replaced the IAT, O2 sensor, both temp sensors, thermostat, cleaned out the throttle body, and reset the ECM codes. Started up like it's supposed to finally. Only one more thing I need some help with. The radiator fan is on all the time that the ignition is on. If anyone has a wiring diagram of my car or a link to one somewhere on the web, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
