Okay I drive a 99 si. I plan to eventually boost it, but the funds are limited at the moment. I have a 3" cat back from apex on it now. From bottoming out a couple times I think I have loostened the heat shield on my catalytic converter because it rattles a bit around 3,500 rpm.
So this brings me to the quesitons. Since I am going to boost it, I have heard that any cat will limit me a lot as opposed to a test pipe. The exhaust is a deep tone at the moment, because of the 3" piping, resonator, and muffler on it. Performance wise, what will I see a difference in between the test pipe and the high flow? What will putting either one on do to the sound?

No, I don't just the stock manifold. I don't think I am going to waste the money on an N/A header since I plan on putting a turbo on it. So it'd be a waste. so stock mani -> cat -> after market 3" catback with resonator and muffler is what I have.
First things first. what are the emmission standers in the stat in witch you live? Are they required? If so that makes your mind up there you will have to run one. If not then I wouldnt run one with a turbo car. It makes a big differance in power on them. If you were just running a N/A motor it wouldnt matter except for the sound. Would make it raspie and alil louder. It is proven on the dyno tha on any newer car with obd2 that there is only a 2hp gain by removing the cat.
As for the sound factor on your turbo car it will be a lil quiter and deeper with or without the cat. All a test pipe is is a resinator unless its a home built one. then its just a pipe.

Yeah I won 't be able to turbo it for a while but I plan to. I live in Illinois and we don't have emissions laws. I think that I might put the test pipe on, but I want to avoid that raspy soundl. I have a big resonator and a full muffler on my aftermarket exhaust so hopefully that helps a bit.
