1st - 5th Gen Honda Civic As these Honda Civics get older and older they become harder to find in great condition and less popular to modify. By no means does this make them less of a contender on the track or car audio competition. Don't forget the roots of what made import tuning what it has become today.

95 d16a6-96 d16y8 swap ! Help !

My son & his frnds swaped motors in his car. It was to be a simple swap know I need to get the DAMN ! thing running !! WHAT A MESS !
The car is a 95 civic si vtec D16A6 5spd. They put in a 96 civic D16Y8 motor & 5spd trans out of a wrecked buddys car. The intake is different so there are vacuum lines & a sensor wire that will not hook up. I don'nt know what I can plug & leave off & what ones I need ? ! The injectors on the 96 would not plug into the 95 wireing harness on the car so they took the injectors out of the 95 motor n put them in the 96 ! Is this ok to do? or do I need to swap harness & computer from the 96 car ? Lastly ! they took the 95 distributor out & put it in the 96 motor is this a OK swap ? He said they did that because the 95 distributor had a new coil in it ! ! LOL ! I NEED SUM HELP ! And is there any other thing that I need to look for ? It's noon got a cooler of beer n headn out to work on the damn F@%*#N thing ! LOL !

Re: 95 d16a6-96 d16y8 swap ! Help !

first off, they never put a d16a6 in the 92-95 si civics.. its a d16z6.. and swapping parts off a obd1 to a obd2 never a good thing.. and using the ECU from the old civic isnt gonna work different gens.. so you got a mess

NO ! The motor that came out of the car is a D16A6 !! So what does that mean ? Is the motor older or newer ? Do I need to change the ECU ?

d16a6 came in the 89-91 civics. so yes its older and a different OBD.. Your gonna have to find a 96-00 civic and get the ECU from that might as well get a wiring harness from it too

Much easyer ways of doing it. This is true of the a6/z6. If it had an a6 someone has swaped the motor before. As to help you out. You will need to reuse the old wiring harness, and you need to use the old sensors off of the other motor ie; coolant temp, o2, so on. As for the ecu use the stock one thats in the car. Shouds had been a p28. If it was a vtec engine that came in it factory. If it was a a6 swaped with a v-tec head you will be ok. If non-vtec that will have to be wired in and a p28 found to replace the computer that was in it. And use the y8 dizzy. You will eather need to rewire the dizzy to make it a obd1 sents it is a obd2. Or order a converstion harness. Found hear. http://www.phearable.net/shoppingcar...sses-c-28.html. Sounds if your son and friend should had done alil research before starting there swap. Hope this puts you back on track.

Ok. This is a little different situation but similar problem. If i know a guy selling a 1995 Civic Dx with a 1999 Civic Ex D16y8 swap will that work or is it not worth my time buying. Like the guy above. Will the ECU work? The car apparently needs a new wiring harness but to tell you the truth idk what that means. LOL.

Well i need a little more info. Because if he swapped everything out from the D16y8 that includes(motor tranny, ecu, wiring harness) if thats all from the 1999 civic then yes its good.. if hes got it all messed up with different OBD's, ecu's then i wouldnt touch it
